When a child says “I can’t”, our instinct can be to jump straight in with “Of course you can!”
But sometimes, rather than convincing them they can, it can help to get curious about what feels difficult.
“What bit feels difficult?”
“Shall we work out where to start?”
“Do you want me to help you with the first step?”
Breaking something down into one small, manageable steps can make it feel a little less overwhelming and gives them the opportunity to discover what they’re capable of.
Sometimes confidence grows from being supported to try, rather than simply being told we can🤍
Save this one for an “I can’t” day.
