Well… we didn’t manage a Saturday update. I think the photos might explain why! 😂🦋

It’s been another wonderfully busy week at Mariposa.

The workbench is FULL, some of the shelves are decidedly less full… and I’m certainly not complaining! That just means it’s time to get making and restocking again.

We’ve had so many fabulous visitors through the door, some wonderful conversations, returning faces and lots of new ones too.

One particularly lovely moment was meeting a lady who had spotted one of my creations online last week and came into the shop specifically to buy it. There’s something rather special about realising that the things I sit at that very messy bench and make are being seen, remembered and then chosen. ❤️

And some of the new creations haven’t exactly been given much chance to settle in — they’ve gone almost as quickly as they’ve reached the shelves!

Meanwhile, the next lot are already underway. There are beads, findings, resin, paint and goodness knows what else covering the bench, handmade pieces coming back in from our local makers, and plenty more ideas currently rattling around in my head.

We’re also taking bespoke orders for birthdays and Christmas — so if you have someone who is impossible to buy for, or an idea for something personal that you simply can’t find in the shops, come and have a chat. Sometimes an idea is all we need to start with.

Mariposa is growing — one slightly emptier shelf and one increasingly chaotic workbench at a time. 😂🦋

What a lovely week it’s been at Mariposa. 🦋

We’re starting to see some wonderful regulars, meeting visitors to Okehampton, and getting to know the people who are popping in for a browse, a chat, a gift, or simply a little look around.

There have been commissions too. Someone loved one of the little sea glass “Congratulations” pictures but wanted something a little more wedding-like, so I created a new version especially for Verity and Jonny, complete with dried flowers, sea glass and their wedding date.

That’s one of the things I love most about Mariposa — taking an idea someone likes and turning it into something that feels personal to them.

The shop has also been filling up with new pieces, all either handmade by me, created by local makers, or made by original artists whose work fits beautifully within the space.

We’ve had holidaymakers choosing little pieces to take home with them, new work going out one day and disappearing the next, and lots of lovely encouragement for the direction Mariposa is taking.

Behind the scenes, I’m still creating too — trying new ideas, developing new pieces, and letting the shop evolve as I do.

It feels less like I’m simply filling shelves and more like Mariposa is beginning to find her own rhythm.

Thank you to everyone who has visited, supported, commissioned, returned, recommended, or simply stopped to say something kind. It all matters more than you know.

I’m doing a limited print run of 25 of this stunning white stag I took last year. It’s will come as a A3 print in A2 mount ready to framed it also comes with a signed certificate of authenticity and only 25 will ever be printed. Every corner of Mariposa tells a little story.

Some pieces are made here in the workshop.

Some are designed late at night with a cup of tea beside me.

Some start life as resin, some as copper wire, some as paper, wood or stone…

But every single piece has been chosen or created because I simply thought…

“I’d love this in my own home.”

That’s always been my guide.

Well… what a week! 🦋

My first full week in Mariposa and I think I’ve experienced every emotion going 😂

There have been lovely customers, sales, conversations, ideas… I’ve taken commissions 🥰, moved the stock around at least twice because apparently nothing can stay where I first put it 😂 and a till and receipt printer have seriously tested the boundaries of my patience 😆 and we managed to fit in some celebrations for my birthday 🎂

And Lola… well, Lola has taken to shop life like she was born for it 🐾❤️ She’s been such a good girl and is already very much part of Mariposa.

But somewhere amongst all of that, I’ve been creating again.

Properly creating.

Sitting in my little shop, surrounded by beautiful things, paint, resin, wood, glass, pebbles and ideas — and remembering just how much I love this.

Thank you to everyone who has popped in, bought something, trusted me with something special to create, stopped for a chat, shared a post or simply wished me well. It genuinely means a lot.

One week down… and my head is already full of ideas for next week 🦋

First day done… and my heart is very full. 🦋

Mariposa Creations opened her doors today in the Okehampton Victorian Shopping Arcade, and what a lovely first day it has been.

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to come in, have a look around, say hello, and share such kind words about the shop. So many people described it as having a gallery feel, which genuinely means the world after all the painting, planning, making, moving, worrying and wondering.

There have been warm and wonderful visitors, flowers from Kevin Hollingsbee, balloons courtesy of Kev too, beautiful nibbles supplied by Clockwork Kitty another lovely bunch of flowers from Jan Currant from at The Currant Bun hugs from Maria at Paws'n'Moors, and even a visit from her dog Chumleigh.

My beautiful sister Eileen Hayes came to see the shop too, which made the day feel even more special.

Most of all, thank you to the people in and around Okehampton who came to support a new little independent shop and see what Mariposa is all about.

Today felt like the beginning of something.

A shop filled with original art, handmade pieces, jewellery, keepsakes, upcycled treasures, work from local makers, and pieces of loveliness for all budgets — but more than that, a space with heart.

Thank you for such a kind and encouraging first day.
