Another stunning Audi dash cam install

Lovely subtle and tastefully upgraded Audi SQ5 for one of my very popular 4k front / 2.5k top spec dash cam systems with full touch screen over mirror screen - gives excellent rear view (like head up against rear window view ) and automatically drops the camera angle and out in reversing lines when put in reverse !

Wow the suns made a welcome return today ….

So WEEKEND WORK on my own cars …

Track car has no radio (or speakers ) but want to fit CarPlay system for driving to tracks to drown out some road noise (it’s stripped inside so very noisesyyyy )

Fiesta has a double din radio slot so could just fit a double screen CarPlay but want to fit some extra switches and battery cut off in that area …. So decided on single din fold out double din screen CarPlay unit …. So neat discrete when folded away and space for switches below but full double din touch screen size when pull out 😃😁 so best of both worlds

As needed to be securely mounted in dash hole made a mounting plate from 9mm plywood so has great strength and rigidity

Fun cutting exactly to hole in dash shape ( it’s not straight had to make carboard templlaye first ) then cut out for radio. But managed in end - first time ever used a jigsaw when fitting a radio 🤣

Painted the ply with Matt black paint , mounted and wired in CarPlay unit then found some very old but never used speakers to mount in back of fiesta …. (Googled the speakers as reckon had for 20yrs plus and apparently about 30 yrs old 😳😆)

Good sounds and CarPlay tech for road driving and neat discrete and secure mounting

Lot of bespoke work but pleased with results and another job off list to do …..

If the sun stays out long enough might even get the lawnmower out !

It’s 3pm and even the sun has come out 😀😀

So working at garage today and they have a lovely rare ac cobra in showroom ….. leave to next job about 6mikes away and see another parked with wedding ribbons on !

What are the chances …. Bet the wedding couple happy the suns out in an open top as well

Tbh with cold temps and heavy rain all morning I fancied a “thaw “ out in the pub with Mr Morse myself !

Sooooo the weekend water work escalated as heard squishing water noises when pressing the carpet elsewhere in the mini … so seats out carpet out to find more water and dry out ! As you can see some electronic control units under seats so yet another reason to make sure it’s dry and leak free

Only takes a few dribbles of water leaking in over the years to cause lot water under carpets

Seats out back in leaks sealed carpet / insulation hung up to drip dry

Be interesting to see if leaks sorted today as it’s raining again !

Weekend water leak work -

Very common to get water ingress on all cars …. This is a mini r57 convertible and seal around the trim at bottom of wind screen needs replacing so water run down and slowly makes its way inside the car - pooling in passengers or drivers footwell under the carpet

First you notice is probably a damp smell misted up windows and once water reaches a certain level it will come above the carpet rather than sponge foam sound deadening it sits on - if don’t get it sorted it will affects the electrics (especially on minis etc ) as have electronic control units down in the footwells
A garage will want to strip out all seats carpets etc and replace all carpets sort leak out back in and need car for prob 3/5 days -

Usually water only sits in one area so find the area (push down on carpet find water coming up ) and remove trim around that area and cut out carpet and foam - then hang up carpet foam to dry out (takes few days ) get all water out in car with sponge etc then air and dry with car heater / blowers into footwell on max for say week whilst driving around and make sure no more water coming in , then once sure all sorted refit cut out carpet section - zero cost and small inconvenience compared to no car for a week ! One customer of mine was quoted £800-1000 to do this on her ford fusion !
