Off to say farewell to the beautiful Samarbeta this evening, as she retires from service at Great Yarmouth & Gorleston Lifeboat Station.
She's the final all-weather lifeboat along this stretch that I've grown up knowing. Alongside Lowestoft's Tyne and RNLI Aldeburgh Lifeboat's Mersey, these boats have shaped my entire journey as a lifeboat enthusiast since I was 12 years old. And now, at nigh on 40, it's hard not to feel just how significant this change is.
Seeing Samarbeta retire really brings home how quickly time moves in the lifeboat world. On a personal note, I've drawn all three of these all-weather lifeboats, along with their newer replacements, and prints are available via my website. (Details in the comments)
A small way of capturing a big piece of maritime history, and a fitting tribute to vessels that have given so much service to our coast.
