The G Major Scale for Guitarists

The G Major scale is one of the most fundamental scales for guitarists, forming the backbone of countless songs across multiple genres. It consists of the notes G - A - B - C - D - E - F # - G, following the standard major scale formula: whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half.

A common way to play the G Major scale in open position starts on the 3rd fret of the low E string (G) and ascends through the pattern. Alternatively, a movable three-note-per-string pattern can be played starting at the 3rd fret of the 6th string.
