After Fair Report…

I stalled out at Newark Fair yesterday. Business was brisk and I managed to sell quite a diverse range of items from Victorian campaign medals, WW1 & WW2 groups along with a superb boxed Military MBE 1st type to a very happy customer!

I also took along a few militaria items and sold a pristine set of Mk8 RAF flight goggles, along with various badges, books and postcards; it really was an eclectic mixed bag, but importantly what was clear to me is that Newark fair is fast becoming known for its medal offerings, not just militaria as many people may think.

The fair has plenty of parking, a refreshments bar and the hall is laid out in such a way that customers can move freely between the stalls, despite the room often being busy with keen collectors.

I highly recommend this fair to anyone interested in medals, our presence is growing but we need your support in the future to keep Medal fairs alive.

SAVE THE DATE…. 15 November 2026

This is a must attend event for anyone interested in Medals. Please make the effort to come along, there are excellent catering facilities and the venue is easy to find being located near Marble Arch Tube station and on the main bus routes along Edgware Road.

After Fair Report!
What a great experience at the very sunny Stratford upon Avon fair today.

A huge venue with lots of dealers, the doors opened promptly on time as usual and the fun began, the preview early birds searching out those bargains and I was fortunate enough to sell some lovely items to very appreciative customers; a very broad spectrum of sales from Victorian campaign medals right through to modern GSM’s.

It was lovely to see regular faces and a couple on new customers, so the day was very worthwhile.

Overall there was good footfall throughout the day, so a well supported event; if you’ve never been to Stratford fair before is definitely worth a visit.

If you can’t make Stratford then please find out where your local fair is and support it, you just might find something you’ve been looking for.

This is a large venue with literally hundreds of medals for sale along with quality militaria, this is a regular date for many of the top dealers around the country. Great facilities and ample parking, there’s really no excuse not to come and enjoy the day.

Medal Monday!

Featuring a single General Service Medal with Clasp Iraq issued to Lieutenant Richard James Wright of the 23rd Sikhs.

The 23rd Sikh Pioneers was a distinguished assault pioneer regiment of the British Indian Army, originally raised in 1857. They recruited predominantly from the Ramdasia & Mazhabi Sikh communities and had extensive combat experience throughout their existence, particularly distinguishing themselves at the Battle of Arogee during the Abyssinian Campaign, the hard and heroic march from Kabul to Kandahar covering around 320 miles and seeing much action in the First World War.

Lt Wright was first appointed on 26 August 1918, into the Indian Army and served with the specially raised 3rd Battalion for service in Mesopotamia (Iraq). They were mobilised in Rawalpindi and deployed to the region in August 1920, disembarking at the port of Basra on 18 August 1920, serving as part of the 76th Indian Brigade, 6th Indian Division. They operated along the Euphrates river, including service at Rumaitha, Nasiriyah and Samawah and as assault pioneers were deployed as front line troops as well as specialist engineers. They cleared supply routes, fortified outposts frequently under sniper fire and rebuilt sabotaged railway lines, often fighting against raiding parties trying to impede their progress. The 3rd Battalion was formerly disbanded in April 1921.

A fascinating and often overlooked period of military history, the medal is a scarce award to officers of the Battalion.

After Fair Report!
It was the regular Wakefield medal fair yesterday. As usual the early birds were through the door as the key turned and circling the stalls looking for that must have, elusive medal; my first sale was at 8am!

The traders included established names and some that only stall out occasionally, so there is always a good selection of medals available, some not on websites or even new to the market.

Overall it was a little quieter than usual, perhaps the summer holidays impacted the footfall, but business was good and I met some lovely collectors.

It is vital medal fairs, large or small, around the country are given your full support. They are an integral part of our collecting hobby and I believe one of the most interesting and sociable ways to spend a morning with others who share our passion..

So find out where your local fair is and support it, you just might find something you’ve been looking for.
