Kids Planet Nurseries roll out national outdoors Tipi classrooms with kazuba compost toilets.
Rhiannon Mountain of Kids Planet says
"As an outdoor specialist, working for a large nursery group of 260+ nurseries, I knew we had a special opportunity to make a real impact. Children today are spending less time outdoors than ever before, and through my work Iβve seen firsthand what happens when we give that time back. Our nature-based approach was created to help our nurseries build communities that truly understand and value the magic and uniqueness of outdoor learning; where children thrive, feel the seasons change, and learn through real, meaningful experiences. Once you witness children flourishing in nature; developing confidence and resilience in ways no indoor space can offer, it naturally led me to consider ways of expanding this experience. This developed into the concept of outdoor structures, allowing children to spend greater amounts of their day completely immersed in the natural world. Partnering with The Tipi Company felt like a perfect fit, as their ethos aligns so closely with our own. We now have settings where children spend their entire nursery day outdoors, supported by thoughtful handwashing and toilet facilities such as the Kazuba supplied by Woo Woo. These spaces donβt just meet practical needs; they quietly teach team, children and families about sustainability, connection and caring for the environment. Lessons that stay with them for life.
My aspiration for the early years sector is that nature-based practice becomes the norm, not the exception. I hope we move away from overly structured, indoor-focused childhoods and instead trust the power of the natural world to teach resilience, creativity and care. If we can give children meaningful, hands-on experiences in nature from the very start, we donβt just support their development; we nurture future citizens who feel connected to, and responsible for the planet they will one day will protect.
