As you look closer at each piece, you’ll notice unique hardware and locking mechanisms, traditional motifs and incredibly vibrant landscapes.

When visiting Jingdezhen, I simply couldn’t resist these stunning pots. I brought quite a few back with me, but every single one is completely unique, so photographing and listing them all is taking a little time.

In a world of mass production, there is something deeply grounding about a piece of furniture held together by nothing but its own design.

These vintage elm stools from Northern China use traditional mortise and tenon joinery; a technique perfected over many centuries.

Without a single nail or screw, these joints allow the wood to expand and contract with the seasons, ensuring the stool remains rock-solid for generations.

Each piece at Rouge is a testament to the artisan’s skill and a century of stories ❤️

The current star of the shop ❤️

Latticework furniture has always been my favourites but as time goes on, it becomes more and more difficult to source these pieces in good enough condition to restore.

A majority of the restored, vintage pieces you find in the shop were discarded in the countryside when a new wave of Western-inspired home decor and style made its way across China.

For that reason, a good portion of my trips are dedicated to visiting the countryside looking for once discarded pieces which I can have restored by artisans in bigger cities like Beijing.

At the moment we only have one latticework cabinet. Will it be yours?
