I specialize in creating natural, aromatic candles, each one hand blended and poured using UK sourced beeswax and essential/fragrance oils. My signature range is based around the wonderful shape of the rose as well as the more traditional container candle, and I became Rosie’s Roses through the loss of my mum, Rose. My mum was very poorly in 2014, and she would often be sent roses & candles as get
well gifts. She loved to be able to look at the flowers, and enjoy a piece of nature and their wonderful fragrance, especially as she was no longer able to get out into her garden. Being an AVID candle fan, I sat and wondered about the thousands of candles that I had burned over the years, and became slightly alarmed at what I could have potentially been ingesting all that time. I researched studies which showed that some scented paraffin candles produce smoke laced with almost as many toxins as those produced by ci******es. The release of these chemicals can cause indoor pollution which is potent enough to raise the risk of asthma, eczema and skin complaints. It occurred to me, at that point, to look for an alternative - something which could actually assist in keeping the air clean, pure, and free from the dust particles, ions, and polluted elements that are rife in today’s world. That’s when I stumbled upon Beeswax! I had known very little about Beeswax and its beautiful qualities, but the more I researched, the more I knew that this was the way forward – not only for me, but for those around me too. A few months after my mum’s death, I had a true light-bulb moment. I was going to create a company that made beeswax candles in various rose shapes, and I was going to name the company after my mum. It really was that simple. A company to honour her name, her beautiful spirit, and her incredible essence as a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother! The next few months were all about research. Research into candle-making, different types of beeswax, oils, wicks, molds, jars, labels, logos, stationery…..the list continues to go on. I will always remember the look on my best friend’s faces when I placed my very first candles on their kitchen table and told them my plan. “I am going to make beeswax candles, it’s going to be called Rosie’s Roses, and a percentage of any money I make will be donated to Cancer Research UK” Said with such certainty and conviction, there was no going back. To say that it’s been a rollercoaster is an understatement. As someone who has spent her working life bound to a desk making numbers add up, the creative process was alien to me, but it’s one I have discovered I truly love! To create something so beautiful, in the name of someone I love, has been exceptionally liberating, teaching me that we are NEVER too old, or too jaded, to follow a dream, and awaken a passion we never knew we had.
