James Purdey established his gun and rifle making business in 1814 at premises in Prince's street. Within ten years he was being spoken of as the finest gunmaker in London. On 12 February 1868 the Prince of Wales, who became King Edward VII, granted James Purdey his Royal Warrant of Appointment. A decade later, on 28 March 1878, having purchased many Purdey guns and rifles, Queen Victoria assigned

a Royal Warrant to Purdey, as has every British monarch since. Four years later Purdey moved into Audley House, a specially built property in newly developed Mayfair. 57 South Audley Street is still Purdey’s home to this day, and its famed Long Room, originally built as a working office, is today revered in the game-gun community. By continuing our tradition of craftsmanship, excellence, and attention to detail, we hope that many generations to come will be able to enjoy the exceptional pleasure of owning a bespoke Purdey gun.

Congratulations are in order to all who took part in our inaugural Annika Purdey Ladies Day which took place at the Purdey Shooting Grounds.

Our winning teams and individual guns were presented with well deserved prizes following the day’s set shooting competition.

We set a course that offered realistic and technical shooting, catering for a range of abilities over 100 targets.

Celebrating Women in the Field.

Our Annika Purdey Ladies Day was the perfect setting to celebrate Women in the field, whilst raising funds for the Country Food Trust.

The course was set to cater to all abilities, with 100 targets simulating a variety of flight paths for a realistic and challenging competition.

The conclusion of shooting gave way into a Gusbourne drinks reception and a sit-down lunch where guests enjoyed seasonal and local produce.

The highly anticipated prize giving awarded our top teams and individual guns well deserved spoils as reward for incredible shooting.

The Annika Purdey Ladies Day 2026.

On Saturday 6th June our inaugural Annika Purdey Ladies Day took place at the Purdey Shooting grounds.

Ladies came together, from experts to first timers to celebrate Women in the Field and to raise funds for The Country Food Trust.

Alongside a day of incredible shooting, guests enjoyed a light breakfast, traditional Elevenses in the field, and a formal sit-down seasonal lunch to conclude the day.

Congratulations to our worthy winners and to all Ladies who took part, braving the rain for a wonderful Purdey day.

Raise a glass. The singular art of copper wheel engraving.

“The role of the masters is imparting as much knowledge as possible to the younger generation” says Carl Palmer.

Palmer is a master of the anachronistic and highly skilled art of copper wheel engraving – transposing fine images onto crystal glass via tiny copper wheels, placed on the end of metal spindles and spun with a lathe.

A single tumbler takes around 12 hours to engrave, and the rarefied status of this historic craft is only emphasised by its scarcity.
