Sofía Gómez Villafañe rides to victory using new tyre

The Arizona edition of the Belgian Waffle Ride acts as the unofficial curtain-raiser for the US gravel racing season and Sofía Gómez Villafañe used this year’s edition to test what appears to be an unreleased Specialized tyre.

Gómez Villafañe rode to a convincing win in the elite women’s field, finishing 20 minutes ahead of Courtney Sherwell, on a Specialized Crux fitted with a new Specialized Tracer gravel tyre on the rear.

Rabobank returns to professional cycling after almost a decade away

The Dutch bank has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Visma-Lease a Bike
Rabobank is set to return to the world of professional cycling, almost a decade after it last sponsored a team.

The Dutch bank will become a jersey sponsor of Visma-Lease a Bike from July, returning to the successor of the squad it was title sponsor of from 1996 to 2012. It also sponsored the women's Rabobank-Liv team from 2012 to 2016.

"With the addition of Visma-Lease a Bike to our sports partnerships, we are returning to our old love: cycling," Stefaan Decraene, chairman of the managing board of Rabobank, said in a statement. "As the jersey sponsor of both the men’s and women’s teams, as well as the development team, we look forward to supporting the next generation of cycling talent together."

How does UK weather compare to rest of Europe?

After biting temperatures over the past week, the UK is set to be hotter than Greece and Turkey today.

Some parts of the country will see highs of 15C , especially in the south, but even northern England and Scotland will enjoy a rather balmy 14C.

That’s way above the average temperatures for the end of February, which sit around 7-8C.

It comes as holiday hotspots in the Mediterranean face Storm Coral, leaving Greece, for example, with daytime highs as low as 5C.

Team forced to ditch winged Kask Aero Pro Visor with less than 24 hours notice at UAE Tour

Not even a last-minute equipment ban could stop Josh Tarling from winning Tuesday’s time trial at the UAE Tour, albeit with a different visor than planned.

Originally reported by Velo, the race jury issued a notice less than 24 hours before the stage, prohibiting the use of the flared Kask Aero Pro Visor.

The jury communique read: “The Commissaires Panel informs all Sports Directors that the Equipment Commission of the UCI prohibits the use of the following kinds of visors of the following brand, Kask.

Bianchi has unveiled its new Aquila RC time trial bike, boasting significantly improved aero performance and an integrated design that looks equally fast.

Bianchi says the new Aquila RC is the result of 20 months of development.

During this time, the brand collaborated with world-class time trial specialist and Arkéa-B&B Hotels WorldTour team rider Kévin Vauquelin.

The Aquila CV was the last remaining rim-brake bike in the WorldTour. The new Aquila RC drops rim brakes in favour of disc brakes to gather all important aerodynamic gains with the RC’s front end.

Could the UK actually get colder with global warming?

Significant impacts from Storm Éowyn with further winds and rain in the forecast

Further wind and rain is forecast following the severe disruption bought to parts of the UK by Storm Éowyn.

A provisional peak gust of 100mph has been recorded (at Drumalbin, Lanarkshire) so far during Storm Éowyn, with the possibility of this figure changing as more data is reported.

There have been significant impacts from the system, with further wet and windy weather forecast on Sunday and into the start of next week, with weather warnings issued.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “The influence of Storm Éowyn on the UK’s weather will diminish as it moves further north and east on Saturday morning, but there’s little respite in the conditions for some with the next area of low pressure arriving from the southwest on Sunday.

New Ridley Noah Fast is brand’s fastest ever bike

The Noah Fast was first spotted back in November but we now have all the details

Ridley says its new Noah Fast is the fastest bike it has ever made, saving 8.5 watts compared to its predecessor at the WorldTour pace of 50kph.

The Noah Fast was first spotted in November 2024 when an image appeared online of Uno-X Mobility using the new bike. The sighting prompted some to compare the aero bike, with its deep head tube, to the Velocity Ace from Uno-X Mobility’s previous bike supplier, Dare.

Ridley says that in 2025 “aerodynamics is everything”. It has taken advantage of the latest UCI regulations, while updating the bike’s geometry and cockpit to make the aero bike as fast as possible.

UK weather: Temperatures could fall as low as -20C after UK records coldest night in 15 years

Friday night is likely to be the chilliest of the current cold snap, the Met Office says, aided by still conditions, high pressure, "not a lot of wind and clear skies".

Temperatures in northern parts of the UK could fall as low as minus 20C on Friday night as wintry weather continues, the Met Office has said.

There are yellow warnings for ice on Friday morning covering the eastern coast of England and Scotland, the South West, Wales and Northern Ireland.

There is also a yellow warning for snow and ice for northern Scotland. All the warnings expire before midday.
