We’re soon going to be leaving this apartment, and I took one last chance to rejig things and refresh the walls.

It’s been almost 3 years since we’ve lived in what was supposed to be a temporary stop, and I never quite managed to paint the walls, make it our own.

Leaving feels like the right next step. This one was never home, and I tried very hard to make it home. Sometimes you just don’t gel with a space, and that’s ok too.

My son’s most treasured possessions aren’t expensive.

They’re rocks, sticks, feathers, leaves and wildflowers.

Each one carefully collected. Each one carrying a story.

It made me think about the things we treasure most.

A photograph. A child’s drawing. A well-loved toy. A keepsake from someone special.

The objects that mean the most are rarely the ones with the highest price tag. They’re the ones that hold memories.

Mine is a cracked porcelain piggy bank from my childhood. It’s missing a piece, but I’d never part with it.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what makes a gift memorable.

The gifts that have stayed with me over the years have earned a prominent place in our home, bringing back happy memories of the people who gave them and the occasions they marked.
