The story of Forward Models.
I grew up in Birmingham during the 1950s and 60s. I went to Raddlebarn school and played in Muntz Park. Raddlebarn Road led to Bournville, Cadbury’s, and Selly Oak Hospital. I moved away when I was 19 but I never forgot Birmingham’s magnificent buses, lined out in blue with a coat of arms and the motto ‘Forward’.
Forty years later, I tried to find a model but there was none. So, I decided to look for someone, a model maker, to build one, or maybe two, scale models for me. Things got out of hand and in 2012, I took delivery of 4,000 model buses from a factory in China, of two types and five different routes.
The photo shows my model number 1. I am very proud of this first ever model of a properly detailed Birmingham bus in the correct livery, with thanks to Godfrey Crompton who helped to make it a reality.
