"None of the great Parisian cultural figures - around whom many trips to Paris revolve - went there on holiday. They were writing, thinking and painting in the place they happened to live. They were interested in things - the beauty of ordinary objects, the meaning of life, memories - that don't belong to any one particular place. Perhaps the ideal outcome of two days in Paris is the realisation that we don't need to visit Paris at all".
If you're someone who loves to reflect and think more deeply about life, you will absolutely love the "How To Travel" collection of mini-essays I am proud to stock.
I am a classic case of travelling to Paris to follow in the hallowed footsteps of the artists, intellectuals and writers, in particular, whom I admire. But, as the piece on "How to spend a few days in Paris" points out, the art is found within us by dint of our powers of mindful observation and being present in the life we are leading, not by heading out on a pilgrimage in the hope of an epiphany.
I will forever travel in the rich pursuit of personal growth. But if the last two years have shown us anything, it's that to be a traveller is to be a seeker, and that is a lens that can be worn in the details of daily life, even if it takes more conscious application than when the world around us is new and different.
