No Sweat 💦 Don’t Fret 💪

A common misconception is that sweating = a quality workout and if you're not sweating then you’re not working hard enough.

Sweating alone isn’t a foolproof gauge for hard work or fat burn.

Sweating is simply the internal cooling process as your body temperature increases 🥵

So even if you’re sitting in a pool of your own sweat, that doesn’t automatically mean you’ve just burned a ton of fat.

Some people naturally sweat more than others. And if you add heat to the mix, for example exercising outdoors in the summer, or in a heated room, sweating is inevitable.

Everyone sweats differently, and you shouldn't be concerned if a strength workout makes your friend sweat more or less than you.

Sweating isn’t necessarily a perfect indicator of the quality of your workout it doesn't tell the entire story as to how effective your workout is.

So please don't get upset if you don't sweat 👍

The Covid 19 pandemic has made the world realise just how important our mental wellbeing is

For as long as we can remember going to the gym was about “No Pain, No Gain”.

Training until you can’t lift your arms anymore or until your legs feel like jelly

Not anymore

You should aim to be the healthiest version of yourself.

Train for longevity and overall health.

Look to get involved in fun workout classes, yoga and low impact ways of keeping the mind, and body, in shape.

If there is something we can take from the past year….fitness and health aren’t the same thing

Eccentric Training.

Better known as 'the negative '

Focusing on the way you are lowering the weight (eccentric movement) is an effective way to build muscle size and strength.

Examples of eccentric movements are;

• Slowly bringing the barbell back down to the floor during a deadlift on a count of three.

• Lowering yourself from a pull-up bar as slowly as possible.

• Slowly rolling back during a Pilates roll-up.

• Lowering the weight to hip level during bicep curls.

While an eccentric contraction uses less energy and oxygen than a concentric contraction, the negative movement actually creates more force.

Eccentric contractions can literally make your muscle fibres grow, making the muscle itself physically longer resulting in greater flexibility, and greater flexibility means greater injury prevention.

So next time you perform any of these exercises above - or any exercise for that matter - try to extend the eccentric portion for the count of three.

Today the stay-at-home Covid restriction order comes to an end.

With summer just around the corner there's no better time for everyone, young and old, to be allowed back outdoors and get active with friends.

Today two households or groups of up to six people are now able to meet outside.

Meaning we are now able to get back to enjoy the mental and physical health benefits of physical group activity.

Despite today's easements, everyone must continue to stay safe and remember how far we have come.

We are one-step closer to normality. Next stop - April 12th.

Let’s talk deadlifts

The KING of all exercises,

In one movement you work your;

✅Hamstrings
✅Quads
✅Glutes
✅Inner thighs
✅Spinal erectors
✅Lats
✅Traps
✅Abs
✅Obliques

No other exercise comes close, not even the squat.

But because of its popularity, it comes with a lot of haters.

A lot of people avoid the deadlift because they think it's dangerous.

This is one of the exercises that you do not want to ego lift because it will humble you very quickly.

Learning the proper form first is crucial with this move to reap maximum effect.

ALWAYS focus on proper form before trying to increase weights on the deadlift, and you'll be fine.

Not only is this exercise great for your posture, building strength and growing muscle.

There are many different variations of the deadlift, with different benefits!

Age is a number, not an excuse.

As you get older it's more important than ever to set healthy habits now and for the years ahead.

Yet many find it a challenge to get the recommended amount of exercise.

As you get older naturally, your bone density and muscle mass starts to decline, as does your metabolism.

Added to the fact we’ve been conditioned to believe that a fit and healthy lifestyle is only achievable in your 20s.

So as you get older it’s easy to not even try.

The great thing about exercise is that it’s never too late to start. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never exercised before – starting now will bring immediate and longer-term benefits.

You might have to push that little bit harder, or work out in a different way, to get the same results as when you were younger.
