I’ve been working away in the background on updating my website. In doing so I’ve inadvertently deleted my old site 🤦🏻‍♂️. Please be patient, better service will resume soon.😃

I’m overwhelmed and humbled by the support and kindness shown by so many people in my last post, it really is a lovely community. This newfound energy (long may it last) has helped me feel confident about the next phase for Barrett Recorder Repairs and what the future holds. I can’t wait to share more with you, I’m excited at least!

As some of you will know, I’ve been battling a health issue for just over two years when I was signed off work by my GP. Not great when you are self employed I can assure you. In hind sight I had not been right for much longer with an undetected issue.

Over the last two and a bit years I’ve battled the problem and through highs and lows of recovery (my graph would look like a scary fairground ride) come to feeling something like normal or better than a normal I’ve ever known. There are things that haven’t righted themselves and now may never, or might over a very long period. Those issues I can work around, happily.

The support and kindness my customers, friends, family and fellow colleagues, you know who you all are, and a big shout out to Julie Dean of Recorder Shop London, has been amazing and helped enormously with my recovery. Julie has been a miracle at explaining to customers on my behalf when I’ve not even been able to reply to an email or taken too long on a repair, I owe her a massive thanks and will always be grateful for her support, even down to the “recorder repairer” first aid kit, containing goodies not only for me but for my family too. Thank you Julie and everyone who has supported me.

What does this mean for me now? I’m feeling a whole lot better and in a place to move Barrett Recorder Repairs forward. I could go backwards healthwise so I’m having to be careful but forwards is my aim. I’m no longer a part time repairer, part time peripatetic teacher in schools. Repairing is going to be my focus, working towards full (ish) time work in the future, after all, who wants to work crazy hours??

This has taught me to take my health seriously from now on and so urge you all to do likewise, mainly because I love this community I’m a part of❤️

Take great care
Anthony

I don’t think I’ve ever done this many thumb hole bushes in one go before. And yes, I do know which centre joint goes with which instrument🤣

You can’t make an omelette without cracking eggs. These are the first cuts of a tone hole pad seat. This is the way every new key starts. All other parts of the key spring from this central point.

For those with workshop knowledge, the machine speed in the video looks different in real life😃
