“My first pick is Gang of Four ‘Entertainment’. It’s one of those albums that redefined what punk and post punk was supposed to be. You finally see that punk starts to have a little bit more experimentation about it. The album is full of large sounds and scratchy guitars that sound awfully produced, but it’s just so unbelievably good you can look past it.
Next is an undiscovered folk singer and guitar player called Penny Carson Nichols. She recorded a small cassette with her friend in her home that was discovered by a record producer who loved it so much that they reissued it onto vinyl. It’s the only recording we have of her.
Leonard Cohen ‘Songs of Love and Hate’, it does what it says on the tin really. He has such strong aggression and love towards people, that it comes out in all the songs.
My last pick is ‘Low’ by David Bowie, produced heavily by Brian Eno, someone I find to be a god of music. The first half is tracks that are only two minutes long, with Bowie singing about how destructive his life has become, and the second half is an ambient landscape of beautiful sounds and amazing synthesisers.”
