I really just can’t be arsed to “make content” today. So here’s a glimpse of what I’ve been crocheting today.

Trying out micro crochet with silk thread, as in sewing thread thickness. I’ve determined you either need really good eyesight or just be reasonably proficient at guessing where the stitches are. And my eyes sight ain’t good, even worse now after staring at tiny stitches all day!

Anyway, having said that, it is really good fun and has inspired me into thinking about lots of mini things to crochet 💚

Learning all the things you need to know about crochet can seem daunting. Especially when you’re online and hear terminology you don’t understand, can’t figure out why your jumper did’nt fit right, why it’s too stiff, why it’s too gappy.

If you don’t know what to ask, how’re you going to try and find the answer?

These are the crochet tips I wish I had known before I started piling up the unfinished WIPS and items which just wouldn’t fit correctly.

Any skill is daunting at first, but the most important thing is to enjoy it, so don’t put pressure on everything being perfect, learn at your own speed.

Bitter sweet feelings!

Sweet because I met the most beautiful mummy and daughter team! They went from never crocheting before to being ready to start a world of creativity! And how I enjoyed spending time with them.

Bitter, just because our lessons are over, and I’ll miss them. But it’s mainly sweet.

So proud of what they achieved in only 3 1hr crochet lessons. Thank you 𝕁𝕖𝕖𝕥𝕙𝕦♛ for being one of the loveliest humans I’ve met, and your daughter is the brightest, sweetheart 💗

No matter the weather crocheters have to be thinking at least a season ahead.

Nevermind blasting sun, heatwave, sweating, it’s time to be thinking about Autumn, rust colours, thicker yarn and Halloween/Samhain 🤣

Happy Granny Square Day!

The granny square is really one of the most amazing and enduring designs in crochet.

From the humble standard granny square which is rooted in 60s rebellion from the status quo of fashion and society, looking for a more handmade ethos, to more modern iterations like flowers, rainbows, skulls, lacy delicate squares, blocky squares, whatever your personality, there is a granny square to be made.

How to get straight crochet edges on your crochet work. Chain 3 version of starting a round is always visibly different to the rest of the work, so these dc stitch variations can dramatically elevate your crochet work to look far more professional with a much cleaner look.

The standing double crochet can take a little practice but it’s so worth it to make all the stitches look the same. The standing double crochet is probably my favourite way of starting a row.

The stacked double crochet is the best way of getting really straight edges.

Using a slip knot and a standing crochet is a fantastic way of getting a clean colour change, especially in the middle of a row.

These stitch various also get rid of a happy join between rows in the middle of a piece of crochet.

Yeah but WTAF is not not pursuing your crochet business dreams after the age of 40, not buying all the yarn you want for just inspiration, leaving WIPS to get dusty in a pile if you’re not inspired, wearing your handmade crochet tops out and about and feeling completely blown away by the beauty of nature and taking it slow enough to appreciate it.
