We are absolutely delighted to be able to tell you all that our 'OFFICIALLY AMAZING®' Stewart and his team have achieved a new Guinness® World Record for the world’s biggest bug/insect hotel! 🙌🍾🥳

6 months of back-breaking work and 7 members of staff were required to complete this project, and the end result will eventually be home to millions of insects such as ants, ladybirds, beetles, bees and butterflies. This, in turn, will help to feed other animals on the nature reserve such as bats, hedgehogs, birds and badgers.

The 199.9 cubic metre structure is made from felled sitka spruce, bamboo canes, masonry bricks, forest bark and wood chippings. In order to meet the stringent world record requirements, the size of the bug hotel was measured by a chartered surveyor and the presence of bug life confirmed by a local expert.

It is sure to prove a hit with visitors to the nature reserve, says Stewart.

Last month you may remember the arrival of 2 beautiful ladies to the Reserve. We are delighted to introduce you to Skye and Iona 🐷❤️

They are a cross between our usual Saddlebacks and a Pietrain (our last pigs were Saddleback and Gloucester Old Spot crosses, the before that a pair of Saddlebacks and the very first were Tamworths).

Iona and Skye have settled in really well and are already doing their bit to help out by keeping the braken down and under control around the Reserve.

Once a common sight across the UK, the red squirrel population has faced a considerable decline due to the invasive, non-native American grey squirrel. Bigger and stronger than red squirrels, the greys often win the competition for food and living space.
