A wee update from Kosi Pogies.

Since 2020 I’ve kept the price of my handmade Kosi Pogies at £30, despite the cost of specialist materials increasing significantly. Some doubled in price.
I believe in using the best quality of fabrics, never cutting corners and will continue with this belief.
Every pair is handmade by me here in Bonny Scotland and I still offer FREE POST WORLDWIDE.
From 1st September the new prices will be.

Basic Kosi Pogies £35 per pair
Kosi Pogies with HI Vis Reflective Tape £40 per pair.

Thank you paddlers who have supported my small business over the years. Your encouragement, photos, recommendations and repeat orders mean more to me than you know.
My aim will always be simple to make warm reliable Pogies that last for years and keep paddlers comfy on the water.

Breaking news from Kosi Pogies sewing hub..
The August edition of The Paddler Magazine features its first review of Kosi Pogies, concentrating on sun protection. There will be another review of Kosi Pogies later in the year for cold weather paddling.
My antique Treadle Singer sewing machine is well oiled and ready for action.
Luckily I have about 100 pairs in stock. Stitched in a range of colours to match your boat, gear and taste.
I have also added a new colour , Orange. Only available for top colour at the moment.
I had better get sewing.

Update from my previous post on PFAS
I have just been contacted by my material suppliers and pleased to let you know that all the material I use to make Kosi Pogies is PFAS free. Happy days.
Also pleased to let you know that I have also found PFAS free material in Orange suitable for Kosi Pogies. New season colour. I often get requests for Orange. Lots of Orange boats and dry suits on the market it seems.
Unfortunately the material is double the price of my usual material.
I have addled the colour option Black cuff , Orange top to my website and kept the Kosi Pogies at £30 per pair.
But if you are looking for Kosi Pogies in all Orange you will find them in the bespoke section of my website. Cost £40 per pair.

Some of you may have noticed that some drysuit and outdoor clothing manufacturers are now advertising products as PFAS free or PFC free. Sometimes called forever chemicals, they have been used in most waterproof and water repellant outdoor fabrics because they work really well and durable.
But environmental concerns have been raised. France, Denmark and California have already banned PFSA in a wide range of products, including paddling gear, since February 2026.
The UK is lagging behind. They made a plan for improvement earlier this year but no decisions or regulations yet.
As a wee business I have been looking into what this means for Kosi Pogies.
I recently contacted my fabric supplier and learned that many of the newest PFAS fabric technologies are still being developed and working to achieve the same level of waterproofing and durability. He does not have PFAS fabric in stock at the moment but is keeping me updated and I will adopt suitable alternatives when available.
Also take a note of the amazing bargains on dry suits just as some companies are transitioning to PFAS free.
In the meantime one of the most sustainable things we can do is make products last.
The greenest bit of gear is the one we don’t need to replace every year.

Perfect weather window for a paddle from Berwick to Eyemouth today in our double sea kayak with Daisy dog on top. 9 nautical miles . Special treat to go through The Needle on the spring high tide. Great to see the guillemots , razor bills, puffins and fulmars back for the nesting season. Still waiting on the kittiwakes to arrive.

Great article on the dangers of cold water paddling.
Our waters in Scotland are pretty cold most of the year. Loch Ness , due to its depth never gets much above 5 degrees below the surface all year round.
Paddlers all have habits ,good and bad , picked up over the years.
My habit is to always splash some water on my forehead every time I start paddling. Just to let my brain know how cold the water is.
When I started paddling , 1982, I capsized after a river trip down The River Balvaig. I was told it was the easiest way to get out of the river. I thought I would be fine as I took a deep breath giving me plenty time to exit my boat for the first time. As soon as I hit the water it felt like I had been punched in the stomach and I instantly exhaled all the air in my lungs under the water. Panic set in and not happy to say the least. I survived but a hard lesson. Took me a couple of years before I got in kayak again.
Doesn’t matter how fit you are. I paddled with an international gymnast a few years ago. He was doing handstands on his boat. Really impressive. He fell in and reacted badly to the cold water. He had no fat , pure muscle. Took him a while to recover from his cold swim. I was a warm sunny mid summers day.
Stay safe out there everyone on your paddling adventures. Wear a B/A and always dress for water temp.
Rivers are going to be exciting and cold after the snow melt.
