Marking of construction products (those and only those covered by a harmonised European standard) became mandatory in the EU on 1 July 2013 under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR).
From the end of the Brexit transition period (31 December 2020) new rules apply in the UK outside of N. Ireland and separately in N. Ireland.
The new rules, covering the changes to marking, Declaration of Performance (DoP) and notified (EU)/approved (UK) bodies, are explained in the Timber Trade Federation publication TTF UKCA Guide.
The government announced on 24 August 2021 that businesses will have an extra year to start using UKCA marking – the new date from when UKCA marking becomes obligatory is now 1 January 2023, although the UKCA mark could be used in GB from 1 January 2021.
