Oh help! Oh no! It’s a Gruffalo!

Another day, another Party Smarty party 🥳 I love parties in the garden - and this one was so much fun to plan! We’ve had a pile of logs at the bottom of the garden since we moved in 10 years ago and when our Gruffalo obsessed now 2 year old’s party was coming up, I knew exactly what we had to do with them 😄 Making Mouse masks and retelling the story was completed by my 5 year old jumping out dressed up as the Gruffalo 😍

We used the BRIGHTS party kit today (a perfect choice for toddlers as they’re small plates) as well as the tuff tray and the guttering ball run, all available to hire. The tuff tray was the quickest type of setup - we painted some pasta green yesterday for the scrambled snake and then just chucked a load of other dry ingredients on with some googly eyes (which for some reason we have an obscenely large quantity of 🤷‍♀️) and some bits from the play kitchen. The purple prickles gave us a good opportunity to use the playdoh that’s been mixed (😭) and we just so happen to have a whole lotta Gruffalo puzzles and books already. So except for a bit of printing we didn’t buy a single thing for today’s party!

If you’re wanting to do a Gruffalo themed party with food here’s what we had!
- scrambled snake (spaghetti and pesto)
- roasted fox (carrot sticks)
- orange eyes (orange cherry tomatoes)
- poisonous warts (green grapes)
- terrible tusks (melon)
- terrible teeth (yoghurt covered raisins)
- Gruffalo crumble (flapjacks)
- purple prickle juice (apple and blackcurrant squash)
- Gruffalo claws and biscuits
- Gruffalo birthday cake! 🎂

From a village hall yesterday to my garden today! We had a family get together this afternoon and since the rainbow set had just been washed it was the obvious choice! Also: the cake was made in an 8” tin so a good reference point for the size of the food trays!

Another outing for the rainbow XL party kit today, for a 5th birthday party at Shaw Village Hall. 30 bright and lovely plates, cups and bowls were used during the party. That’s another 90 disposable items that weren’t used and thrown in landfill! 🥳

When we do a party, we really do a party 🥳 Yesterday we held a double age 5 birthday party at Kingsley Road Community Hall here in Chippenham with a superhero theme. The best news for anyone keen to be a Party Smartypants is that when my children have a party, the kit available to hire list gets bigger 😂 Swipe through to see some ways we used the Party Smarty kit for this children’s party and to see a couple of newbies that will be added to the website soon!

We didn’t have any disposable superhero decorations, tablecloths or plates but you would be under no illusion about the party’s theme! We put on the invitation that costumes were encouraged but not essential, and we brought a few spares for those who didn’t have any but wanted to wear one - all sourced from Vinted 2nd hand.

Happy 4th birthday F! Today’s party was a Frozen themed one with a brilliant ice setup on the Party Smarty tuff tray, plus of course the rainbow XL kit and food trays. 2026 is definitely the year of the rainbow kit so far!

An Easter spread with the Party Smarty pastels kit!

I couldn’t believe the number of disposable Easter themed plates etc. I saw in the shops this year so I decided to rise to the challenge and put together a spring themed spread for an Easter Sunday party-ish lunch! 🥚

This little lot has been doing some heavy lifting already this year. We’re 3 months into 2026 and the rainbow set has been to 6 parties already, saving 175 sets of disposables from landfill! 175 cups, plates and bowls…that’s over 500 individual disposables that have not been used and thrown away!! 🤩🤩🤩
