Day 11 of Beat the Bots!
A non-creator post today, as I have a reenactment event all weekend with the Swords of Mercia.
I got into leatherwork as a reenactor, making some of my own kit, cause I come from a crafty family (Mum was a craft teacher)
Got asked by friends if I could make things for them, so Buffy started growing.
In March 2020, the week before lockdown, I took a punt and attended my first market: the Artisan and Reenactment Market (ARM)
I was picked up by the Netflix Head Armourer for the Witcher at that show, and started my movie career making scabbards for Season Two.
For the next three years, I juggled a day job (Sales Director for a Printing Company) with a growing personal business and a massively expanding portfolio for Netflix. (Season 3 and most of the scabbards for the Lark prequel)
By that point, I was being asked to join the full time Witcher crew at the Netflix studios, which I eventually did in 2024 for Seasons 4-5, taking the chance of redundancy from print.
So now, after a corporate career in Advertising and Print, I’m a full time craftsman and Buffy is my life.
Please like, comment and share to help me beat the Meta bots!
Yours with grateful thanks

Rant incoming: sorry 😬

First, I’d like thank so many people for liking and sharing my posts: I really appreciate it, and it’s helping me get Buffy to new people.

Background is that back in April, Facebook decided that they’d stop sharing my posts and page to new people. No reason given.

Similar pages in the reenactment world are also being hit, which we believe is due to a glitch in the automated Meta Review process.

Since then, I’ve contacted Meta support many, many times, been put through to 25 human agents, had 7 phone calls and 5 screen shares…nobody can find an issue (no “violations” on my page and nothing has ever been flagged.)

All I get told is that it’s automated and will automatically get lifted…it isn’t and it won’t.

Cynically, thinking this is part of the Meta push for paid content, I paid to be Meta Verified.

Was told that, with that, and posting every day for a couple of weeks, the ban would be lifted.
And, yesterday, it was!
For the 3rd time.

And, sure enough, for the 3rd time, the restrictions are back in place less than 24 hours later 🤦🏻‍♂️

I get a lot of business from Facebook, so this restriction is really hurting me.

So I’m very grateful to everyone who likes and shares my posts: it (may 🤷🏻‍♂️) help to beat the bots, but it’s certainly widening my audience, so thank you.

Rant over 🥸😎🍻

Day Ten of Beat the Bots!!
While most my scabbards are plain, as was historically accurate until the mid 14th Century, I am happy to take on more complex, blingy work!
All my work is hand tooled, sometimes with the addition of gold leaf for the extra WOW factor!
Below are some of my blingier examples.
As ever, please like, share and comment: all helps to convince the Meta bots that I'm an actual craftsman!

Day Nine of Beat the Bots!
While I specialise in historic scabbards, I also make a wide range of other leatherwork, like bags, belts and quivers.
One of my best selling items is a medieval book case, for a book of hours, or, in todays world, a smartphone :)

Day 8 of Beat the Bots!!
White belts are iconic on scabbards shown in High Medieval artwork.
By all accounts, the Alum Tawed leather used came from the North East, where the natural aluminium salts used in the process gave the typical whiteness.
I'm fortunate to have found a source for authentic leather to use for belts, so have been commissioned to make a variety of scabbards using them.
Not the easiest to keep clean (assuming, back in the day, you're squire had the task of rubbing with chalk?) but an authentic, verified look. (and sport shoe whitener works!)
As ever, as I attempt to beat the Meta algorithm that's currently killing my page, please like, share, comment.

Day 7 of Beat the Bots!
I've made quite a few late 16th and 17th Century scabbards, but it was particularly interesting when I was commissioned to make some early 16th/Tudor scabbards for the new Highlander film.
Using the extant surviving examples from the Mary Rose as a source, you can clearly see the evolution from the 15th C three point suspension, to the simplified Tudor version: still 3 point put with a fixed rather than a sliding mid point.
From that, the transition to the full-on late Tudor Rapier type finger suspension (again, still 3 point), until you reach the 17th Century style, again a simplification.
As a maker, it's fascinating stuff!
As ever, please like, comment and share if you can: all helps in my bid to beat the Meta Bots that are currently crippling my business.

Day 6 of Beat the Bots!
The 15th Century 3 point suspension is an evolution of earlier styles, and the precursor of what was to some in the 16th and 17th Centuries.
A relatively simple tied belt fastening, it relied on a moveable "slider" of some sort and an additional buckle from the top of the scabbard to anchor the suspension in place.
A very popular style, which I tend to make to complement a diamond core scabbard.

Day 5 of Beat the Bots!
A selection of smaller scabbards, both wood core and all leather.
Generally, construction is all leather, which I make by forming a medium thickness leather core, wrapping it in the same leather I wrap normal scabbards, so it's two part.
Trying desperately to describe what I make, without making any reference to any term that the Meat bots might think is threatening is challenging, but I'm sure you can see what I mean!

Day Four of "Beat the Bots"
I do a lot of Film and TV work, in addition to my day to day Reenactment work.
I worked on the Witcher Seasons 2-3 (and the Lark Prequel) and moved to full time in-house Armoury Leatherworker at the Netflix Witcher Studios for Seasons 4 and 5, where I made pretty much all the multiple army armoury leatherwork (scabbards, quivers, belts...) and the same for a lot of the main characters (Geralt, Ciri, Milva, Yarpen, Zoltan etc)
Unfortunately, Netflix NDA's mean I can't share any of that!
I also can't share the work I did on Gladiator 2 or the new Highlander movie.....
I can, however, share pics of the scabbard I made for King Richard in the Lost King a couple of years ago, so here you go!
As ever, to help beat the Facebook bots, please like, share, comment away then maybe I'll get out of Meta purgatory!
