I know it’s August, but some things take time 🥰…. Our Christmas personalised card slots will be released at 6pm this evening. Make sure you’re signed up to our email list for the link if you’d like it first. They will be publically available from 7pm on the website. Your card can be customised to represent the members of your family and pets 💌 We design, print, package and hand-wrap these entirely from our little studio and we may not be able to release another batch as we are so busy at the moment. 💌 We received our first pen-pal letter.

Today is International Friendship Day, and we can't think of a better way to celebrate than with a handwritten letter.

Smitty's Small Town Wonders BookHouse is now a Letter Keeper for the Sunday Letter Project, a growing community connecting people through the simple act of writing letters.

While the BookHouse isn't officially open yet, you'll find this first letter waiting in the Wonder Box on the porch at 206 Bishop Street.

Open the Wonder Box, read the letter, and leave the original there for the next visitor to discover. If it inspires you, write back.

Then join us for our first Slow Sunday: a quiet preview of the BookHouse where you can write a letter, color a page for our Christmas in July Coloring Contest, read, or simply pause for a while.

In a world of instant messages, there's still something magical about opening a Wonder Box and a handwritten letter.

Because sometimes the greatest wonders arrive in the smallest envelopes. ✉️

It’s such a common and difficult question. How can there be so much beauty in the world, and yet simultaneously so much pain and suffering? And how can we try and live with them both? To not let one consume the other?

Tulips are the national flower of Turkey. In light of the recent devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, I chose to represent the common blue butterfly, commonly found in Syria, landing on a tulip petal as a sign of hope. I will be selling a print of this painting on our website with at least £15 going directly to the Disasters Emergency Committee via Work for Good.

People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions, with humanitarian needs expected to grow in the coming days. Access to clean water will likely be a challenge, bringing the risk of cholera and other diseases.

DEC charities and their local partners are among the first responders, working with locally-led relief efforts in Turkey (now known as Türkiye) and Syria. Immediate priorities are search and rescue, medical treatment for the injured, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heaters for spaces and winter kits with blankets, and warm clothes, and ensuring people have food and clean water.

The UK Government will match pound-for-pound up to £5 million donated by the public to this appeal
