So after 12 years of doing Open Studios Ayrshire I’m returning to my home farm for this years event & I couldn’t be happier. I did it from here the first year many moons ago then moved to group venues in Ayr as I was the only one in my area. However, this year there are six of us nearby to each other in East Ayrshire so lots for visitors to see & I’m really excited about doing it here 💕
I’ll be posting lots of photos of all the preparations, major sort here needed 🤦🏽‍♀️ & about all the other artists nearby for the next couple of weeks until we get to the main event running from 11th - 13th September. Link below so you can find out exactly where I am & a little more about what to expect. Countdown is on 👏🫶🏻💕

We know how to have a fun weekend 👏how times have changed 🤣
Spent a good few hours doing a bit of chain saw pruning Billy doing the hard work me supervising VERY VERY carefully. He has been known to get a little bit enthusiastic once he starts 😳
Decided to lift the crowns on these 2 Jacquemontii Silver Birches & thin out a lot of the branches & leaves. We can now see all the beautiful bark. I should really have taken before photos there’s a big difference.
Whilst I had him at home (which isn’t very often when it’s light enough to do much) we tackled quite a few other shrubs. We now have a mountain of leaves, branches & cuttings all over the grass
I’d really like to get out there with a sponge & water & clean off the green algae bits on that bark but thats for another day. Clearing up took longer than the cutting down but good job done 🙌💕
Yep my life has definitely changed in many ways!

Knowing that the socials are going to be chock a block with eclipse photos tomorrow decided to pop mine up.
Spent a good 10 minutes 😉 making my pin prick projector this afternoon & tested it out 👍🏻
Assumed my position, breaks in the cloud getting darker & cooler but then at just the time the eclipse was due nothing visible & my box was consigned to the chair next to me 🤷‍♀️
Not long after that the sun appeared, missed everything but had to take another photo in my box just to test it one last time. Hope you got a better view where you were
I’m a bit of a hoarder but another partial eclipse isn’t due until 2081 & a total in 2090 so the pin prick projector will be heading for the recycling bin 🤣

Back from visiting by mum down in Durham then onto my sister in Wooler before heading west back home. A few more photos of our short trip to Perth & a visit to Blair Atholl. I usually pack my sketchbook & do absolutely nothing with it 🤣 but I did manage to get it out a couple of times so that’s progress. Realised with hind sight I should have taken some alternative materials but at least I filled a couple of pages so some progress. Fiddled too much but learnt a lot. A long to do list getting organised for this years Open Studios Ayrshire in September which after 12 years I’ll be returning to do from my home farm. More details & updates on various things I’ve been busy with behind the scenes soon 💕

Some photos of our trip to Perth staying at the beautiful Ballathie House Hotel with Ted & some photos from a visit to Scone Palace. A little glimpse of my sketchbook which I did get out a couple of times in between the walks etc. Beautiful sunshine the whole time we were away 🌞 raining since we got back 💦
Wish we could send some down south where the farms are really struggling, we definitely wouldn’t miss it up here 💧

We managed four nights away in Perthshire after the silage was by enjoying sunny weather & trips out & about with Ted 💕 Looking forward to going to see the New Cunninghame Art Club annual exhibition now on at The Barony Centre West Kilbride. I’ve two new originals entered this year Lakeside Trees & Meadow Yellows (not a white cottage in sight😉) as well as prints, art tiles & cards. Looking forward to visiting this week & seeing all the work from talented local artists 😍
Open Monday - Saturday 10.00 - 4.00pm with a wonderful coffee shop on site. Well worth a visit 🥰

Not sure if this birthday is the right one to pop up photos of younger days or if it’s just when you get to a certain age you start reminiscing so I decided to pull up some old photos & went down a rabbit hole as you do 😉
Can’t believe I’m so old I remember when my mum & dad were 40 I thought that was ancient 😂 little did I know
Looking back photos with my twin sister Jan, yes we were in a time when we always dressed identically. Graduating as a teacher in the 80’s the era of Charlie’s Angels & hairspray when you could lift up the entire section of one side of your hair in one go 🤦🏽‍♀️. Teaching in North Shields, momento a school photo in the customary brown & gold mount, then a year in Spokane Washington State USA on a Fulbright Teacher Exchange scholarship.
Changing to Northumbria Police, then a move to Scotland (when you marry a farmer you go where the farm is 🐄)
Scottish police law is different so I returned to teaching briefly & then a garden design course at Auchincruive when it was still an agricultural collage. Opened a plant nursery at home selling seeds to plant for a florist at your back door.
Appeared on the Beechgrove Garden 🪴(proud of that now …. it’s an age thing) & then 6 years with my sewing & knitting shop in Newmarket Street Ayr Street.
So here I am having had one son Ben, who can still sleep anywhere like his dad (needs to get himself a girlfriend 😉), two dogs Max & now Ted living on a farm & loving my last throw of the creative dice slowly (age thing) forging my path to be an artist.
I’ve been very lucky to have had so many life experiences 💕 In 20 Years time when I’m not on Facebook 🤞🏻it’ll be nice to look back at these photo memories.
Age doesn’t come without its issues but hoping that hubby Billy, whose even older than I am, starts to realise that 4am starts really long days 7 days a week is too much & you’ve more than earned a work life balance when we get to this age 🫶🏻🙏
Happy birthday sis 🎉🎂🥂
