Workshop Wisdom -

The first impression we had of Ella’s workshop was from the outside. In the window, a black cat looked onto the street, sunning itself on the kiln still warm from the last firing.

Inside, it’s easy to see that nature is as much a part of Ella’s space as it is her work. Images of wildlife sit between the plants in her studio, making their way into the brushstrokes that decorate her pieces.

Ella told us that her working days are flexible, splitting her time between the workshop and her children. The two often intertwine, bringing even more life into the home studio. Emphasis on ‘home’.

Workshop Wisdom -

We asked Ella what themes or concepts drift into her work.

“I’m heavily influenced by the wildlife and landscape that surrounds us here in West Wales. I’m also inspired by traditional Japanese paintings, classical art, and folklore - a whole mix of things really!”

An afternoon with Percia Verlin.

Felix was in New York and asked if there was anyone he should photograph.
There was one person we didn’t have to think twice about.

Percia has that rare mix of knowledge and style - the kind you can’t fake.
We’ve followed her work for a long time: the way she talks about clothes,
the history she brings into it, the care she gives every detail.

So they took a trip out to Coney Island.
Boardwalk, bright sun, a few pigeons for company.

Percia wears the Aurelia in Selvedge.

Keeping record.

Some of Paul’s repairs are so good, you wouldn’t know they were there. Invisible to the untrained eye. ‘If you know, you know.’

These jeans are different. The repairs are clear enough, but so are the dates they were made.

This customer kept a record of every wash and repair from 2015 on their inside left pocket.

When something feels important to you, it’s worth writing down. Even a repair you’d struggle to spot.

Grandmaster in training.

Phoebe is approaching two years at Hiut as a trainee jeans maker.

She’s worked through heatwaves, snowstorms and house moves. Learning every day.

Even with two years at the machines, there’s still more to learn. More processes to master.

Because being the best at something isn’t about how much you can learn, it’s about how well you learn it.

Thanks for showing up, Phoebe!

The Do One Thing Well List 2025

Around this time each year, we take a few days to reflect on the efforts that others are making to do things differently in their industry. The brave, the wonderful and the weird.

We compile a selection of these into a list, which went live this morning.

All 10 categories and links can be found on our website. If you see someone you recognise, tag them below!

Time to get the kettle on.

Workshop Wisdom -

Set back from the streets of Dalston comes the buzz of shredding plastics and extraction units.

The walls of this workshop are lined with blades of all shapes and sizes. An archive of ideas and collaborations. Past, present and future.

Allday Goods exists to turn the ugly side of an industry into something beautiful.

Workshop Wisdom -

We asked Hugo what inspired his creative career.

“My parents always encouraged me to ask why - so I could understand things properly and not just accept them. Growing up I was busy pulling things apart and putting them back together again.”

P.S Our collaboration with Allday Goods launches later this week, stay tuned for more.

To accompany our manifesto for a simple life, we asked to create a series of illustrations.

7 works for 7 reminders.

The kind of words that take a moment to sink in, so we released them week by week.

This week marks the release of the final illustration.

Once you’ve read it, read them again.

And again, and again, and again.

The rule has always been simple: the heavier the denim, the harder it is to wear.
You endure weeks of discomfort before it bends. You sweat through summer because the fabric will not let air pass.

This denim disproves the rule.

At 18oz, it is our heaviest yet. But it is an open weave, woven at low tension. The yarns sit further apart, leaving space for air to flow.

It is heavy, but breathable.

Japanese Open Weave Selvedge.
18oz. The heaviest we’ve ever done.
Limited to 100 pairs.
