Sweet Life Crochet

Sweet Life Crochet I first picked up a hook and yarn on the 23rd Oct 2017... I hate having to put them down now. I'm an addict, but I'm mummy first to my 3 cute munchkins οΏ½

I don't know if you remember a post from 2023 which was of some granny squares I'd been making as we drove to our holiday (if you doom scroll my page you'll find them, it won't take you long, promise). Well, in the last couple of weeks I decided to finish the WIP, and I use that word lightly because it wasn't even a work in progress. It was just an abandoned pile of squares, stuffed in a bag and stored next to where I sit on the settee where it dreamed of one day realising its full potential... that day has come, and I present to you my beautiful crochet bag πŸ₯°

And I am enjoying being able to say that it is all mine! I've made so many bags over the years which have been gifted that I feel like I've earned this one.

I lined it and everything! Every time I line a bag is a school day. I bought myself a Singer Sewing Machines UK sewing machine for my birthday last year (could have been the year before, the clocks are ticking faster these days and I'm sure someone stole a few months from me last year). And along with mending clothes, taking up trousers and making curtains shorter while they still hang on the rail, I've been enjoying (mostly) how to do new things with it.

Last night I put together the lining for my bag, double lined for poshness, but unbeknownst to me, the bobbin had tangled up and made the stitching bloody awful on the outside of the bag. So I pulled it all out and went to bed marginally defeated.

Today, I tightened my bobbin, relaxed the tension and it all came together like a dream. I sewed my linings together properly (instead of just folding over the top as I stitched), so now my bag is elite and not just posh πŸ‘ŒπŸ».

I bought detachable clasp rings and handles for it (because after 3 years, figuring out how to JAYG (Join As You Go) the squares together meant the very idea of crocheting a handle was becoming soul destroying). And so... I now have pink AND tan faux leather handles so I can choose a colour to suit my outfit, or my mood!

I purposely made one pocket with a contrasting top so that I could tell which side has the pocket to hold my mobile phone. Anything to alleviate guesswork and brainfog 🀣

I *think* the fabric was from Fabric Love UK πŸ€” I knew I had it, and had spent weeks looking for it, only to find it yesterday in the very bag of fabrics I thought it was in to begin with πŸ™ˆ The clasps and handles are from the 'zon

Hope you like it, but I don't mind if you don't, cos I love it, and it's MINE MINE MINE... don't be jelly πŸ€ͺ

I actually made this cute bag around Easter time, but held off posting until the birthday girl had received it (which was yesterday! Happy Birthday Emily Gibson )

This is the gorgeous Hobo Bag pattern by Shehnaaz Afzar made with Bernat Maker yarn Bernat in colourway Lichen.

The handle was made using a tutorial on YouTube, I think I posted the link last year when I made market bags as teacher gifts πŸ€”

I lined it with some matching fabric from Hobbycraft . Getting the pockets in there was kind of tricky, as it isn't the deepest bag. But it is a very cute bag for everyday use.

The Maker yarn is a dream to work with, and Shehnaaz's pattern is very easy to follow. I did a single crochet edging around the top edge of this one to help hold its shape. I used my singer sewing machine to sew the handles into place as well as to stitch along the top edge of the fabric lining. The bag clasp was from the mighty 'zon... there are lots to choose from on there!

I hope you like. I'm trying to decide what end of year teachers gifts to make this year. My boys are finishing junior school this year, so it needs to be something special, but one of the teachers who received a bag last year, is currently teaching the opposite twin to last year so I can't do bags again πŸ˜†

And for the first time in the history of our kids' teachers, there is a male teacher to make for... I'd love your ideas for him because I'm stumped!

Hope you're all living your best life, or as well as you can πŸ€—
