So I ventured out in search of something other than the usual suspects lastnight. To cut a long story short it never happend.
I know sooner or later there’s going to be some right bonus fish popping up along the shorelines of the Bristol Channel but when or what that will be I don’t know , what I do know is that I will be putting in the efforts to try and reap these rewards. , HUGE tides this week made fishing slightly uncomfortable in the channel with only certain marks I would personally fish. , to the known angler I’m sure there is some really good marks on these tides but me personally I’m unsure. , however we did approach these tides as normal with the strength of the tide in mind.
The approach -
Casting pully rigs at range was not the ideal plan , often leads tend to tripping out or unplugging which then makes my rig end up in the footwell of the mark. , not ideal.
What we tended to do on the flood was to fish medium range (100yds) with a 7oz Gemini lead , why the Gemini lead? These leads ungrip parallel to the lead , which makes the w**d pass by ALOT easier. Snood lengths were around 18” just to see if it would make any difference. Fortunately for me it did, no w**d and no stupid amounts of grass balling up at the hook end.
After casting , I went for the ‘uptide approach’ , let the lead hit the ground and then let some line out for a bow in the line.
Bites - with the bow in line and the grippling tide , I was never going to get the usual ‘bang bang’ bite , I was more or less looking for the ‘slack line’ bite.
The leader knot was getting pounded with grass / w**dy bits which was making it hard work all night
What I would say is what a learning curve , the ebb produced a lot less information than the flood, the flood just wanted to play games and drive my tips into the rough, however we did catch fish and we also saw some incredible scenery.
Untill the next one
