Thank you so much to and for this stunning window painting!

A 2023 survey found that 1 in 3 UK libraries had been asked to remove or censor books, with the most targeted topics being LGBTQI+, race and empire. 82% of librarians were concerned about rising censoring pressure.

The creeping pressure that seeks to erase experiences, voices and lives from our shelves and from public life must be met and countered.

Amnesty UK have launched The Q***r Stories Covenant, a collective pledge for libraries and bookshops. By signing, they pledge to proudly keep books with LGBTQI+ themes, stories and authors of their shelves and to refuse to comply with attempts to remove diverse voices from their collection.

The pledge offers mutual support and demonstrates solidarity with each other. They will receive guidance and support from Amnesty’s Q***r Rights Network.
