Hi all,

💕Thanks to you all being so lovely and supportive we are running a little low on filled jars. We will be sterilising more and jarring them with gorgeous fresh runny honey in the next couple of days so please comment on this post or message before you make the trip to collect any honey to make sure we have some available.

It's swarm time 💕

🐝This is the time of year when bees swarm, the reason they do this is the hive becomes a bit full and they decide to split and continue the 'family' elsewhere rather than be overcrowded and die off.

👑When this happens the bees start to make a new Queen (one of 3 different types of Queens which i will cover in the next few days) by 'charging' multiple eggs with royal jelly and then the Queen leaves with about half of the worker bees to give her enough workers to set up their new home. The other workers stay to look after the original hive.

😱Swarms can look scary but they really aren't as long as you leave them be (no pun intended 🙈😁). You'll often find them bearding (resting in big clumps that can look like a beard) on trees, plants or walls. If you find one of these one your property the best thing to do is to make sure that they are honey bees and then contact your local beekeeper, they will more than likely be able to come and collect them and if they can't collect the swarm themselves they should know someone who can. This shouldn't cost you anything as the beekeeper will take the bees, quarantine them and then when they know the bees are healthy they will take them to their apiary and start a new colony.

🧑‍🚀🙋‍♂️Jason is more than happy to come and collect any swarms that you find locally so feel free to send us a message or comment on one of our posts if you need our help 😊

Afternoon all,

I hope you're all enjoying the drier weather, I know our bees our 🐝☀️🌤🌞

We have added a few more things to our honesty box so now when you come for your honey you'll find

🍯Honey drizzlers,
💋*Oil based propolis balm,
💕*Alcohol based propolis balm,
🧡*Oil based propolis spray - coming soon
💥*Alcohol based propolis spray - coming soon
🕯Beeswax gonk candles

*Our propolis balms and sprays are wonderful for putting onto small cuts, scrapes etc. The Oil based products are suitable for children and pets but the Alcohol products should only be used on adults as they may (will) sting a little when applied.
They aid with healing and have some incredible properties that i will go into over the next few days.
The Oil based balm also makes a wonderful lip balm.

💓If any of you ever have any questions about bees or anything to do with bee keeping please let me know and I'll do some informative posts too 😊

If you're popping along to get some honey from us why not call in to my new happy place 😍. Barlaston Milk Barn has lambs and kids all ready for a fuss and some affection, can make your day go from 'meh' to 'ahhh' in a few seconds. If the weather is nice why not grab a milkshake from their gorgeous selection and sit at one of their picnic tables for a while. It has certainly lifted my mood today 💃💕🐑🐐

Hi all,

We are thinking about adding some different things to our honesty box but wanted to get some opinions first. Some of these things would be able to be available straight away, some would have to be prepared for next year as it would take a completely different set up of some of our hives to produce them

What, if anything, would you like to see?

🕯Beeswax candles

🧚‍♀️ Propolis balms

🍯 Comb honey

🎂 Treats such as honey cake, honey cookies, cinder toffee etc

As always, thanks for your ongoing support 💕

Please remember that bees need water too. They often drown in bird baths, ponds etc yet it's really easy to make them a safe drinking area.
All you need is a shallow dish, some pebbles and some water.
Pop the pebbles into the dish, top up with water so the pebbles are mostly submerged and put outside. The pebbles give the bees something to stand on whilst drinking or, if they accidentally fall into the water, it'll give them something to grip onto to climb out of the water. Butterflies and other bugs will also appreciate this 💕

Honesty box now active. More items, such as beeswax candles, balms etc, will be added later in the year 😍🍯🐝💛
