Remember the gel press botanical prints I did on Thetis Island from a friend’s native shoreline meadow? They have become the latest Artists Trading Cards on the word prompt: Country and its Colours. Canada, red and white, BC wildflowers. They have been sent to the organiser and it will be interesting to see which countries the other participants chose. ❤️

Learning this gellipress monoprint technique is lots of fun… and an excuse to experiment (because I am one of those who needs to know the rules first so I can break them 😂). What I am enjoying the most is mixing various bits of my creative process, including papercutting, photography and figuring out how to make something cool again when I’ve made a massive mistake right at the beginning… In this series:

1. One for Sorrow (using a portrait of my mum when she was evacuated in 1939)
2. Silver Anniversary (for one of the RNLI volunteers who was married in 1966)
3. Full Moon Magic (stamp, shapes and ephemera)
4. Idris & Telyn (image transfer, acrylic and ink with collage…work in progress)

I spent the day volunteering at the RNLI gift shop with a wonderful 80 year old named Caroline who has been working there for 17 years, and associated to the Lifeboat Station in Aberystwyth for a lot more years because her husband was part of the crew. There are more and more women crew members now too since the patriarchal rules changed. All I can say is that women like Caroline make the world a much better place.
