Our horizontal dials are craftsman made to commission from verdigrised bronze or marine grade brass that will slowly weather to a mellow brown finish.
Each dial is handmade, uniquely for you and your garden and has space for your dedication, motto or date to be engraved, (the Topographic Dial even points to your special places to bring memories of travel or distant relatives to mind).

We dispatch brass dials within 3-4 days or sooner and Bronzeed bronze within 2 weeks but call us if you need the dial more urgently or with any special requests.

Our vertical sundials are designed to your exact longitude and latitude to ensure they perform as accurate timepieces. The dial plate has a gnomon, an object used to cast a shadow and hour lines to indicate the passing of time.

The burial chamber at Newgrange, County Meath, Ireland, built over 5000 years ago has an interesting Winter Solstice phenomena. The winter solstice, which falls around the 21st of December, marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. At Newgrange, sunrise on the mornings around the solstice reveals a remarkable alignment. The first rays of the sun enter through a specially crafted opening above the doorway known as the roof box and begin to light the narrow passage. As the sun rises, the light moves steadily forward until the central chamber is filled with a golden glow. The illumination lasts for only about 17 minutes, yet it remains one of the most captivating experience in Ireland’s ancient calendar. 😃🌞🕰️

The Oak King and Holly King are figures from Celtic/Wiccan lore representing the cycle of light and dark seasons, battling for dominance at the solstices. The Holly King rules the waning, dark half of the year, while the Oak King rules the waxing, light half (Winter Solstice to Summer Solstice, representing light/fertility).
