Our favorite series: winemakers you don’t know yet — but should.

The Brochet family owned vineyards near Reims even before phylloxera. After the epidemic, it became more profitable to switch to other agricultural crops — which the family successfully did. Fortunately, a great parcel of vines (2.5 ha) in the lieu-dit Le Mont Benoit, in a little-known Premier Cru, was leased out in 1962 for 35 years.

Emmanuel, already the third generation, waited for his moment and took over the plot in 1997, releasing his first wine just five years later. Then he quietly moved to organic farming and invested in oak barrels.

And today? Waiting lists for allocations and recognition from wine critics, while a modest 11,000 bottles per year keeps him far from mass popularity.

After a long absence, we’re back with good news for lovers of terroir-driven Burgundy.

At just 23 years old, Jean-Marie Fourrier took over the family domaine and quietly set its course. Guided by the principles of Henri Jayer, he developed a rare sense of infusion and a restrained approach to oak, shaping Pinots that are delicate, graceful, and among the most refined in the Côte de Nuits.

One terroir, and one only: Clos Saint-Jacques. Just 0.89 hectares, planted to old Pinot Noir vines dating back to 1910 — a true concentration of depth, finesse, and patina.

The 2023 vintage will soon be available by allocation.

Today we want to put the spotlight on NV Brut Blanc de Blancs from Champagne Marc Hébrart.

In 2014, Wine & Spirits listed him among the world’s top 100 producers — and this cuvée shows exactly why.

The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is bold and energetic, with real depth and drive. It’s a blend of Chardonnay from Oiry and Chouilly (both Grand Cru) and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ (Premier Cru). Looking for a high-end Brunello? This is one to know🍷

Piaggione is a tiny 1.2-hectare plot sitting at 420–450 meters, on fossil-rich limestone, with vines planted in 1994 and 2007. At Salicutti, biodynamics aren’t a slogan — bees, chickens, birds, and living soils form a self-sustaining ecosystem where Sangiovese feels completely at home.

The 2018 Piaggione Brunello is classic in the best sense. Around 6,500 bottles made, plus a few magnums. Organic fruit, three years in large Garbellotto and Mittelberger casks, then a year in bottle. No fining, no filtration — just honest wine. Light ruby in the glass, roses, wild cherry, licorice, crushed stone, a touch of candied orange peel. Tannins are firm now, but this will age beautifully through 2045.

Hermaïon is the result of years of focused work by Marc Soyard at Domaine de la Cras, shaping a Pinot Noir with clarity, tension, and quiet depth. This is Burgundy made without shortcuts — precise, transparent, and driven by intent rather than recipe.

A genuinely rare cuvée, which arrived at the end of last year following a very special request.
