Surprise Hamper

Surprise Hamper 🎁 Because every smile deserves its Surprise Hamper moment.

Apparently, building a small business involves changing your mind. A lot. 😂

I’m slowly learning that changing something doesn’t mean the idea before was wrong — sometimes you just learn what you want to do differently.

So here we are. Another little change, another experiment… and we’ll see where this one goes. 🤍

I could only share the sold-out days, the lovely orders, the full tables and all the moments when things go exactly as planned. But that wouldn’t be the whole story. 🤍

Sometimes you prepare everything, fill the shed, look forward to opening it… and then the day simply doesn’t turn out the way you expected.

Today was one of those days. I opened the Pastry Shed and didn’t sell a single thing.

Am I sharing this because I feel sorry for myself? Absolutely not. It’s simply part of running a small business — and I think these days deserve a place in the story too.

Because one quiet day doesn’t suddenly make an idea bad. It doesn’t erase all the days that worked. And it definitely doesn’t mean you have to question everything you’re doing.

Sometimes today just didn’t work. And that’s very different from it doesn’t work.

So the shed gets closed, the treats come back inside, and life goes on. 🤍

One year. 🇮🇪✨

Watching these little clips back made me unexpectedly emotional.

A year ago, I came to Ireland with Surprise Hamper and no idea where any of it would lead. I just started. I baked, packed, tried things, changed things, had ideas that worked and others that definitely didn’t. 😅

And somewhere along the way, this little business started becoming part of my life here.

There’s still so much I want to try, build and discover. But looking back at where it started is a lovely reminder that you really don’t need to have everything figured out.

Sometimes you just need to take the first little step. And then the next.

And because one year in Ireland — and one year of building Surprise Hamper here — feels like something worth celebrating, I’m doing exactly that next Saturday, 15th August. 🥳

I’ll be opening the trailer for a little anniversary celebration, with plenty of treats, coffee and, hopefully, lots of little moments of joy. 🤍

One year down. And I’m very curious to see where the next little steps will lead. 🇮🇪

Building a brand feels so different from simply building a business. 🤍

A business can be about products, prices, orders and sales. But a brand slowly becomes something more. It develops its own feeling, its own little world and, somehow, a piece of the person behind it.

For me, it’s in all the small things. Creating a new idea and watching it become real. Finding the right words for a card. Thinking about how something should look and feel. Adding another little detail and suddenly realising: yes, this belongs here.

And I think that’s the part I enjoy the most. There is no finished version. One idea leads to another, the story keeps growing, and with every new piece it feels a little more like Surprise Hamper.

Of course, building a business means thinking about numbers and making sales. But building a brand gives me something else too — it gives me a ridiculous amount of joy. ✨

And maybe that’s exactly what I want this brand to pass on: not necessarily something big or complicated, but those little things that make an ordinary day feel a bit brighter. 🤍

What if joy isn’t complicated? 💛

For a long time, I thought joy had to be something big.
A special occasion.
A perfect gift.
A reason to celebrate.

But the more I build my little business, the more I realise that joy often looks completely different.

It’s a handwritten note that someone keeps for years.

It’s a warm cookie straight from the oven.

It’s an unexpected message from a friend.

It’s sitting in the garden with a cup of coffee.

It’s someone simply thinking of you.

Those moments may only last a few minutes, but somehow they’re the ones we remember the longest.

That’s also the reason why I started Surprise Hamper.

Not because I wanted to sell products, but because I wanted to create little moments that make people smile, slow down for a second, or remind someone that they’re being thought of.

Because maybe joy doesn’t have to be complicated after all. 💛

This post made me smile because, while writing it, I realised it isn’t entirely true.

There actually is one person who never misses a post or story and is always there cheering me on. 💛

You know who you are, and I just wanted to say thank you. It means more than you probably realise.

And to everyone else who follows along, likes, comments or shares my little business every now and then… thank you too 💛

Every bit of support helps spread a little more joy.

💭 What does “Joy” actually mean to me?

For a long time, I thought joy was the finished product.
The perfectly baked scone.
The beautifully wrapped hamper.
The jar with the perfect label.

But over the past few weeks, I’ve realised that joy starts much earlier than that.

It’s in testing a new recipe.
In making mistakes.
In learning something new.
In sharing the journey, not just the result.

Because Surprise Hamper was never meant to be just a place that sells products.
It’s about creating little moments of joy – for my customers, but also for myself while building this business.

And maybe that’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned recently. 💛
