How to solve Color bleed in 3D printing?
It isn’t always a purge-volume problem and a multi-nozzle printer won’t necessarily fix it either. 👀
The real culprit is often light transmission: light can pass through thin printed layers and reveal darker filament underneath. That same effect is what makes CMYK lithophanes look so impressive—but it can create unexpected shadows in regular prints.
In this sliced model, the black walls extend underneath the eye and skin-color surfaces. With only a few top layers above them, the black filament shows through, making it look like color bleed. The solution? Rotate the model so the eyes and skin receive enough material depth in the correct direction.
Matte filaments can conceal underlying colors a little better, but even they can let darker colors show through when the outer surface is too thin.
