As many of you have seen, recent events in the Middle East have pushed global oil prices toward USD 100 per barrel. This has a direct impact on the transportation and logistics industry, especially air and ocean freight.

Just like during COVID, airlines and shipping lines are passing these increases directly to their customers through special fuel surcharges.

To give you an idea of how quickly this adds up:

Ocean carriers have increased their surcharge on a 40ft container by almost USD 1,000.

Airfreight carriers have also announced new charges:

“Effective March 16, 2026, the AFS for intercontinental lanes (EU, ME, Africa, and AP) will increase $0.30 per chargeable kilogram, with a minimum charge of $15 USD. Interregional shipments (LATAM, Caribbean, US, and Canada) will increase to $0.12 per chargeable kilogram, with a minimum charge of $15 USD.”
