Clean up, Clean up
Everybody, everywhere 🎼

My girls love to help clean, but we all know that just leads to an even bigger mess (swift bottles, am I right!?)

This activity is both fun and teaches a great skill- sweeping!

What you need:
- a small hand broom for littles or a full size broom for your older kiddos.
- tape
- pompoms or something light to sweep up

Tape off a square onto your floor (or some other fun shapes), toss the pompoms out and set them to work. We added a triangle and rectangle to practice our shapes. See our stories for some team work and giggles 😆

Snail homes 🐌

This activity was inspired by my eldest and her love of snails. She’s a collector- each time we go for a walk, her pockets with be filled with sticks and rocks and other forest treasures. She brings these pieces of nature home and spends hours in our backward mixing, building and tinkering.

What you need:
- a great natural place to walk (& to create). We often stay in the forest for hours to encourage her to leave the pieces of nature in their natural habitat - especially the snails.

-If you live far away from a forest or trail, you could take a drive with a small container to collect sticks, rocks, leaves etc. And bring them back to your space. We keep a container or forest treasures (nothing living) in our shed to play with over and over again.

What could your little build or create? Sometimes their imaginations are ready to go, but other times they need to be prompted. Give them a problem “this little snail shell needs a slug - how could we create a spot to attract one? 😜 we would love to see your little’s snail home! Tag us

We took a few days break to catch out breath after a very busy weekend but we’re back with CHALK PAINT!

Has anyone else noticed the shortage in chalk? It’s like last springs tp fiasco! So we’ve whipped up a quick and easy (and cheap) chalk paint your littles can use safely.

What you need:
-cornstarch
-water
-muffin tin or small containers
-food colouring
-brushes

See our reels for the recipe and follow our stories tomorrow for us painting in action 😊

Jewelry store 💎

A multi-step activity that requires a little patience while the paint dries 😬

What you need:
-dried rigatoni noddles
- string or ribbon
- paint (we used crayola but any will do- acrylic might stick better but is hard to clean off little hands 😜).

First pant the noodles and then let them sit to dry. This is a fun time to learn about some colour mixing and getting messy.

When the noddles are dry have your littles ones practice their lacing. For smaller ones, tape the end of a string to give them something more solid to pass through the noodle.

We made necklaces and bracelets and then the girls played jewelry store!

What other items could you use for the jewelry? Good old macaroni!? Fruit loops? Cheerios?

Sight word practice 🖍

This activity is great for your preschooler for letter formation and for your school-aged kids working on their sight words and writing.

What you need:
- a tray with a fine layer of salt or sand
- sight word cards or letters on cards (can easily be printed on cue cards or paper squares)

Have your little learner copy the letters or words into the salt or sand with their finger and then shake the tray lightly to “clear” it. The sky is the limit here! Shapes, numbers, their name and pictures!

Thinking of binging these little trays to the shop....Let us know what you think!

Touch and Feel 👐🏼

A fun, sensory-driven guessing game for all ages!

What you need:
- balloons
-small items to fit in the balloons (I used rice, pasta, gems, buttons, pompoms, stars, and small cubes).
- pictures of the items

Take pictures of the items first and print them off. Fill each balloon with an item and tie it. Trust me. You don’t want rice everywhere 🙄 set them out on a surface and encourage your busy bots to feel and guess what each balloon contains.

This activity can be done in so many ways and for so many ages. Even bigger kids have fun trying it out. Your littles can work on colour ID and just love to squish the balloons.

Letter match and hunt 🖍

Online school has us like 😫 So I’m always looking for ways to keep my JK kiddo busy and learning. These abc posters can be used in so many different ways but our favourite is an uppercase/lowercase match and a beginning sounds scavenger hunt.

What you need:
•poster paper (or tape a few smaller pieces together- the back of wrapping paper also works!)
• markers
• plastic letters (or you can write a set out on cue cards). These plastic letters just so happen to be from the dollar store and we use them all the time.
•items for a scavenger hunt

For your smaller ones, you can choose items that correspond to each letter and guide matching them to the letter. For your kindie/primary kid, they really love to go off searching for their own items. It’s so neat to watch them return to the paper with an item that works (or one they already have).

We can’t wait to see how your busy bot interacts with their own abc poster! Don’t forget to tag us and share ❤️
