🔹Rough waters due to US/Canada trade tensions force another ferry operator to downgrade schedule🔹

When it comes to US-bound ferry services in Victoria, we’ve had worse years due to the pandemic, but 2025 is shaping up like it wants that era to hold its beer.

Following the push back of extended schedule summer services for the MV Coho connecting Port Angeles, now Victoria Clipper’s service to Seattle has announced it will halve its summer schedule and lay off nearly two dozen staff in Seattle due to significantly reduced demand. Meanwhile, the Anacortes-bound Washington State ferry route remains cancelled and may only return in the 2030s, pending vessel availability.

This leaves the venerable BC Ferries as the lone stalwart connecting Victoria to the mainland with its regular summer schedule. The provincial ferry system has had a rough several years itself, though, due to mechanical problems, high demand and rapidly aging vessels.

Our guide, Michele, was a total standout. Her energy, storytelling, and knowledge of Victoria’s past and present were exceptional. She didn’t just share facts—she told the stories behind the buildings, the people, and the places, bringing everything to life with humor, warmth, and enthusiasm.

One of the most memorable stops was the world-famous Butchart Gardens. Even if you’re not a garden enthusiast, this place will blow you away. Learning how Jennie Butchart transformed a barren limestone quarry into a floral masterpiece over 100 years ago added so much depth to the experience. The gardens are visually stunning and full of hidden details that Michele helped us appreciate even more.
