I wanted to say a proper hello ahead of this Sunday's soft opening! My name is Katrina, and I'm the witchy woman behind The Magic Dwarf Shoppe ✨🐇

A little about me: I'm a young adult urban fantasy author, born and bred in Montreal. My husband, pup, bunnies and I fell in love with Vankleek Hill the second we drove in and were welcomed by "The Gingerbread Capital of Ontario."

My fascination with mysticism and witchery stemmed from a super young age (around the Charmed era). My mom bought me my first "teen witch kit" back when Indigo was Chapters and the occult section was in a dark, dusty corner.

I wrote my debut Celtic-inspired novel, The Wise One—which is, surprise surprise, based on a teen witch 🧙‍♀️—as my MFA thesis. It's since won an international paranormal fiction award, been featured at literary festivals, gotten Editor's Pick by Publishers Weekly, and is now taught in EMSB schools. I finally released the final installment in The Scottish Scrolls trilogy this past March.

After nearly 10 years of writing this story, it felt time to do the other thing my soul's been yearning to do: open a witchy shoppe and support Canadian creators.

All this said, the only crucial things you should know about me are...

Nature inspires me 🪾 I believe in faeries 🧚‍♂️ Intention is everything 👁️ Being weird is cool 🥸 Incarnating as a human is hard 🙈 There is, undoubtedly, magic all around us 💫

And I'm looking so forward to spreading it wherever and whenever I can.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Magic Dwarf Shoppe! 🌿

To the mothers who pour so much of their love, time, and heart into everything they do, we see you! It’s your steady, soulful presence that keeps everything in balance.

And let’s be honest, that "Mother Saviour" energy is probably the only thing that helps you find those lost keys for the 9th time this week. 😅

For those of us who walk a more mystical path, today feels extra special. It’s a beautiful time to celebrate the Divine Feminine, which includes honouring Gaia, the original Earth Mother. She’s the ultimate mama who gifts us the soil for our gardens, the stones in our pockets, and the grounding we need when life gets a bit too, well, airy (aka overwhelming).

She’s been mothering us all since the beginning of time—and she’s the perfect reminder that nurturing is a powerful force.

So, to the moms who gave us life and the spiritual mothers who stepped in to guide our souls when we needed it most: THANK YOU for being the grounded, living magic in our lives!

Try to find a quiet second for yourself today...even if you have to hide in the pantry to get it. You’ve more than earned it. 💖✨
