Today we will be discussing with Langara College students, teachers and alumni, about how sustainability plays a fundamental role in our company and how it shapes the way we interact with collaborators, partner brands and consumers.

Thank you for the invitation, it is with a great pleasure that we will be sharing our odd mindset and approach to conduct the change and the business.

🔹It’s Friday Puns, but we also want to spread a message.
🔸We don’t wanna be owl by ourselves. We know the current situation has slowed down our in-person interactions, but nowadays we are blessed enough to have technology to help reduce the distance between us.
🔹The cases of depression have been rising exponentially, as a consequence of isolation.
🔸But we, odd people, can play an active role to help, by simply connecting.
🔹Let’s connect, let’s send a message to that friend we didn’t say hi in a while, let’s make a surprise video call to someone in our family to share something or to just express our love, or even have an online wine session with that person we miss.
🔸Giving our time can have beautiful results in someone else soul. 💐

🔹Let’s not allow the situation to isolate us, let’s together.

🔹“We have the chance to rebuild a fairer, greener society. But to do so, we need courageous business leaders who are willing to act, individually and as a collective. No company alone can solve the problems we face. But together we can begin to challenge the orthodoxies which got us here. Together we can help the world change.”🔹

Paul Polman, former CEO of Unilever, who is now working on transforming the structural impediments to sustainable business.

Happiness is a daily choice and not something that just happens to us.
Most of us do want to be sustainably happy. But, our perception of happiness is somewhat skewed. We feel like we’ll be happy “when” something else happens. Some event, thing, or person is going to bring happiness into our lives. In turn, it would allow us to be present, and simply enjoy the moment, living in the here-and-now.
But that’s never really the case, is it?
The difference between being present and being happy is minuscule. Sustainably happy people are able to live in the moment, all the time. They’re able to be present, and simply enjoy the journey of life, and not just worry about the destination.
There are some simple steps that you can take right now that will get you on the road of being happier, fulfilled, and at peace with your life, subsequently allowing you to be present in the here-and-now.
You can live in the present moment if you adhere to these 5 simple steps of daily habit development. (check the images above for more info about each step)
Step 1: Daily Gratitude

Step 2: Physical Activity

Step 3: Limit Distractions

Step 4: Find a Way to Give

Step 5: Find Beauty in Something

Habits don’t form overnight. You focus on these 5 habits and you can be present, but it’s going to take you at least 90 days to develop the habits. And, so many things can distract you in 90 days, but if you can make it that far, you can rest assured that the habit will begin to take root in your mind.

❗️If done well, transparency should enable accountability.

🔹When consumers are equipped with more - and better quality, credible - information about the social and environmental impacts of the clothes they buy, they are able to make better-informed decisions. 🔹As a result, transparency builds trust in the brands they buy and a lack of transparency can damage the brand's reputation.

*Transparency: The public disclosure of credible, comprehensive, and comparable data and information about fashion's supply chains, business practices, and the impacts of these practices on workers, communities, and the environment.

#2 Downside of Recycled Plastics

😷Health Problems
🔸The same VOCs that cause plastic recycling to harm the environment can also present health threats to the people who come into contact with recycled plastics. 🔸Plastic resin, which is part of the manufacturing and recycling process, and comes from petroleum, can leech into foods stored in recycled plastic containers. 🔸The number of chemicals that users consume can increase based on the type of plastic and other factors like temperature and the plastic's age. 🔸Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not cite recycled plastics as a major health threat, plastic manufacturers only use a small portion of recycled plastic, if any, when producing food containers and packaging.

🔹 The #3 downside will be posted on the next post🔹

♻️Plastic recycling helps keep disposable products out of landfills, where they would take hundreds of years to decompose naturally. ♻️However, unlike other materials like glass and metal, recycled plastics aren't able to continually serve the same purpose after recycling.
1️⃣st Downside: Environmental Impact
🔸Each piece of recycled plastic represents a potential environmental threat. 🔸The process of melting down and recycling plastic produces VOC, or volatile organic compounds, fumes that can harm plant and animal life near the industrial site. 🔸The heat needed to melt plastic also generates carbon emissions, which contribute to global warming.
🔸Recycling center workers who discover unrecyclable plastic, which includes pieces that contain food waste or debris, may discard it improperly. 🔸Since plastic is not classified as a hazardous material, its recycling doesn't come under international regulation, thereby complicating efforts to solve this problem.
