This may be the nicest out the whole current collection. It displays bright intense color on BOTH SIDES! It offers a Dragon Skin pattern featuring a kaleidoscope of colors including Rare Pink, Blue, Purple, Gold, Green, Orange and Red. A truly Rainbow Ammolite Collector Gem.
This gem, with it's unique shape, pattern and amazing color is produced from some of the highest grade Alberta Ammolite I have ever seen. It is such a pleasant surprise to be able to reveal this splendor of color from both sides of the Ammolite shell. I don't know what I have until I grind through layers of rock.
Ammolite is arguably the rarest gem in the world. Ammolite was first recognized as a gem in 1981 at the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) in Paris and was recently recognized as the Official Gemstone Of Alberta. It can only be found in a small area in Southern Alberta. The value has increased by 300% in the last decade alone and it continues to rise as the world becomes familiar with it's stunning beauty and rarity.
The title, "Imperial Ammolite" is used to describe an Alberta Ammolite gem that consists of only the natural shell of the Ammonite fossil unattached to any rock. Usually the color of Ammolite, or shell is not separate from the fossil itself. The back of most Ammolite gems is the rock from within the fossil. So, most Ammolite gems show color on only one side. An Imperial Ammolite gem has bright color on BOTH sides of the material because it is only shell....no rock. It's extremely rare to find Ammolite shell only. The color is everywhere!
The gem is stabilized and polished. Then it is coated and sealed in the hardest and clearest jeweler epoxy available. This free form Imperial Ammolite gem is well protected and very wearable. The wet look of the epoxy magnifies the light when it hits the gem and reveal stunning bright color. Where some artists are trusting a glued on bail, I don't. I insist on drilling through each of my gems. There are two posts on the .925 Sterling silver bails that are secured right through the gem and the whole piece is sealed for water resistance.
