Working on my polymer clay line, starting with large pendants. There are a lot of jump rings, earring wires and necklace cord to be added to the pieces to finish them up.

Sometimes there’s a project that looks possible and so you dream and plan and are grateful for guidance. I’m sharing the inspiration/aspiration photo, and some steps along the way. There are around 100 steps including drying, sanding and firing and re-doing pieces that broke, cracked or fell apart. I think I’m about 1/3 of the way through. It will need at least another day in the studio. The finished piece will be about 1.5 inches and will be 99.9% pure silver.

Post firing there are some pieces that didn’t make it, and there’s a lot of polishing to do. This metal is very hard on the equipment as you can see after removing fire scale on the first few pieces, the grinder is now a nub of its former self. Then Studio Assistant Nadia laid herself on my work surface and that was the cue that work was over for the day.

I’m always looking for new techniques and using a lino cutter to create stamps for shapes and textures is my newest distraction.

It involves transferring an image onto the material and gouging out the sketch. The hope is it will create a bit of a well on the fired piece where enamel or UV resin can add some color.

This is my first successful attempt to get the image onto metal clay. Next step, firing.
