Minotaur Recommendation of the Week

⚡ Calling all puzzle solvers and mythology lovers! ⚡

Look at this gorgeous and fun book! I love it. Greek Myths: Solve Mazes, Crack Codes and Untangle Riddles by Catherine Ard and Maria Surducan is packed with puzzles, codes, riddles, and mythological mischief. This is an interactive book that turns readers into Puzzle Heroes on their own epic quest. It is a brilliant introduction to mythology for newbies and a fresh angle for kids who already love these classic stories. The illustrations are 10/10.

What a weekend 🤍📚

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by during Do West Fest, browsed the shelves, attended an author event, picked up a book, or simply popped in to say hello.

Opening a bookstore is one thing. Seeing it filled with families, readers, neighbours, and so many people excited about books is something else entirely.

We're especially grateful to the incredible authors and illustrators who joined us throughout the weekend and helped make it such a special celebration.

We're still soaking it all in. Thank you for such a warm welcome to the neighbourhood 🤍

📚 Books I’m Obsessed With Right Now

🐻 ** Bear for a Day ** by Corey R. Tabor THIS BOOK! Funny, imaginative, and delightfully unpredictable. A simple classroom assignment spirals into a wild adventure. The illustrations are fantastically creative and the story just as good. 10/10

👹 ** Monsters ** by Stéphane Servant, illustrated by Nicolas Zouliamis, translated by Sarah Ardizzone A stunning picture book about fear, empathy, and the stories we tell ourselves about others. Beautiful and eerie illustrations and surprisingly tender, this book with stays with you.

🐿️ ** Avery and the Squirrel Delivery ** by Rowan Kingsbury A charming adventure filled with heart, humour, and squirrel-fuelled chaos. The best kind of chaos! Clever, warm, and impossible not to smile through.

This week I’m featuring two gorgeous reads ✨ 
📚 The Midwatch Institute for Wayward Girls by Judith Rossell Think mysterious schools. Clever girls! Secret codes!! Danger!!! Friendship!!!! It’s adventurous, funny, and the illustrations are CHARMING. The Kirkus review called it “a delightfully empowering, all-around winner” — yes please! 💛 A great middle grade read. 
📚 Tom’s Wild Ride by Canadian illustrator and author Isabelle Arsenault 🇨🇦 A beautifully illustrated adventure full of imagination, feeling, and wonder from one of my favourite Canadian creators. This is a tender little story about confidence, friendship, and learning to ride free 🚲✨ 
Both are perfect for readers looking for a little adventure ☀️

Before Nuts & Shells became a real place, it started with a lifelong love of books 🤍

From growing up surrounded by stories, to working as a children’s book illustrator, to now opening a bookstore in Dundas West Village, this shop has been shaped by a lot of little moments over time.

Thought it might be nice to share a bit of the story behind it all 📚

Some sunny corners of our shop ☀️📚 We hope everyone is out enjoying some of this amazing weather we're having.

The shelves are slowly filling up with picture books, early readers, graphic novels, classics, new favourites, and books we’ve loved for a long time.

We’re still settling into the space, but it’s been really special watching people come in, browse, take their time, and discover things together.
