Happy International Nurses Day, fans & !
To celebrate this important day, and in appreciation for the tremendous work provided by front line healthcare staff, today, May 12th, 2026 - we present «A Health Care Work Song». The song is a modern day work shanty, written and performed in the folk tradition as a tribute to those in the health care trade.
Written by , this tribute was inspired by personal experiences over two weeks caring for his father Eugene Clarke, in 4 North A Wing, Health Sciences Center, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. The dedication and professionalism of the front line staff in the midst of the difficult circumstances in which they function was admirable, eye opening and certainly worthy of capturing in song. During the long hours the classic work song the “Double Sledder Lad” came to mind and the verses took shape as the various care givers came and went on with their daily routines.
Sadly, Mr. Clarke passed in 4 North A on March 19th, 2026 at the age of 84. This song and fundraiser will hopefully serve as a legacy to benefit others.
The song was produced by John Clarke, Colleen Power and Jim Payne, recorded and mixed by Colleen Power at Baygirl Music and
mastered by Jason Whelan at Sound Solution. On vocals - Allison Walsh, Anna Corcoran, Charla Woodford, Fergus O' Byrne and Jim Payne, with Jim Payne on guitar and accordion, Colleen Power on baritone ukulele and Shana Brown on accordions.
Proceeds from Canadian Cancer Society donations and BandCamp downloads will go to benefit Daffodil Place in continuing their mandate of housing support for those undergoing cancer treatment. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are eligible for a tax deductible receipt.
