Sometimes the pretty pictures have a very different reality behind them….
This spring has been particularly interesting and challenging tulip growing for us. The slow spring was exactly what they love. Cool temperatures, moisture, Sunshine, but not hot …..
Then……a late dump of snow was too much moisture for those late varieties, rodent activity in the winter having a buffet of parrot tulip bulbs underground, and the high temperatures the last week set them into survival mode.

Don’t worry, we will have tulips, but they might not be as glorious as some years.
That’s the reality of field farming and Mother Nature …. Sometimes you win… sometimes you go and set a mole trap or six… and
“There’s always next year “

This is how we do it…..
Here at Country Roads we like to find the most efficient way to plant our seedlings
The drill and a 1 1/2 inch drill bit makes short work of it
I remember digging all the holes with a butter knife not that long ago!
Work smarter not harder

Yesterday was moving day! All the plant babies are home….. now the “real” work begins.
A few days of hardening off and into the ground they go….
Any guesses on how many plants are in the trailer?

So excited when I uncovered the David Austin roses yesterday and they all survived!
Might have to cover them back up for the weekend!! Brrrr❄️🥶💨

These are all zone 4. We planted them in a microclimate in the yard and to winter them over added 2 ft of mulch and at least 2 ft of snow cover.
I can’t wait for these to start blooming again!
