What I Learned From This Young Brilliant Professor

Today in Ottawa, my husband and I had the privilege of meeting one of his former professors from McMaster University, who was in town for a health conference.

Before this meeting, I had already heard so much about her from my husband, her brilliance, kindness, and the strong role she played during his Master’s studies in Global Health. She supervised his project work and continues to support his PhD journey at Laurentian University.

But meeting her in person was something else entirely.

What stood out most was not just her intelligence or achievements, but her presence. She is young, yet so accomplished, confident, humble, cheerful, and deeply passionate about her work. Some people don’t just succeed; they embody excellence naturally, and she is one of them.

During our conversation, she shared that she got married last year, but before that, she intentionally focused on building her academic and professional foundation first. Her perspective was mature and intentional, and it left me reflecting deeply on how success is truly built not by luck, but by discipline, focus, sacrifice, and wise decisions.

This moment was a strong lesson on the power of education. The opportunities here can transform entire family stories, but only when hard work meets opportunity.

As parents, beyond providing financially, we must also be present guiding, encouraging, and supporting our children through their educational journey.

Because a child who is supported, inspired, and nurtured can grow into someone who changes the world.

Education is still one of the greatest inheritances we can give. As a parent, what values are you intentionally passing on to your children besides financial support?

He Inherited 8 Properties But Lost Everything: Lesson Every Parent Should Learn

I came across this real life story on Evang. Ebuka Obi's page that really left me speechless.

A man inherited 8 properties from his late parents, including a duplex, a filling station, and even a hospital, all in strategic locations in Lagos and Eastern Nigeria. According to the story, his parents had also married a wife for him before they passed on, him and the wife have 4 children.

But over the years, things took a painful turn. The man eventually mismanaged his wealth, sold off all the properties, and the marriage broke down after about 28 years. Today, both he and his former wife are living as tenants in different locations in Lagos.

Honestly, it made me pause and think deeply.

How does someone go from so much wealth to nothing?

At the same time, it also raises difficult questions about responsibility in marriage, decision-making, and accountability within the home. When things start going wrong financially, it often doesn’t affect just one person it affects the whole family. My question is what role did both of them play in all these?

Beyond blame, there’s a bigger lesson here.

Parents, this is a reminder: teach your children to build, not just inherit. No matter how wealthy you are, your wealth should not replace the value of hard work and personal growth. Children should be encouraged to create their own path, not become overly dependent on family wealth.

Because when someone grows up with the mindset that “everything is already secured,” it can sometimes lead to complacency instead of responsibility.

In the end, true wealth is not just what you inherit it’s what you are able to sustain and grow.

What do you think? Who do you think should have been wiser? The man or the ex wife or both?

132 Years Broken: How Lela Moser Made History as a Trailblazing Valedictorian

Meet Lela Moser, the young lady who broke a 132-year barrier by becoming the first Black valedictorian in the history of Scottsboro High School in Alabama. What an inspiring achievement.

Her story is proof that hard work, discipline, resilience, and determination can open doors that once seemed impossible. She didn’t allow history or limitations to define her future she created her own path and made history.

This is bigger than academics. It is a message to every young person out there that your background does not determine your destiny. Keep believing in yourself, keep pushing, and never give up on your dreams.

Congratulations to this brilliant queen for inspiring a generation.

Having Canadian Permanent Residency or citizenship doesn’t automatically change your life.

It only gives you the right to stay and access opportunities. What you do with it, is where the real story begins.

I’ve seen different journeys here in Canada:

Some people arrive and settle into comfort focusing on family life, routine, and just “surviving.”

I’ve also seen others who came in and said “I want more.”
They went back to school
Learned new skills
Got better jobs
Built careers while still raising their families

Same country. Same opportunities. Different mindset.

At the end of the day, your PR or citizenship won’t upgrade your life for you, your decisions will.

So the real question is, are you just living or "surviving" in Canada or are you building something here? 🤔

Throwback Thursday 😀
This picture was taken in 2006 during my university days. Wow, how time flies. From a young girl with big dreams to the woman I am today, it’s been a beautiful journey of growth, and grace.

Looking at this photo reminds me of how far God has brought me. Where were you in 2006? 😊

A heartbreaking report has emerged from Swansea, Wales, following the sudden passing of a Nigerian father of two, Kayode Ogunbodede, who reportedly passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 26, 2026.

According to reports, he leaves behind his wife, who is currently a student, and their two young daughters aged 6 years and just 6 months old. Family members and members of the Nigerian community in the U.K have described him as a calm, supportive, and devoted family man who was always willing to help others.

Moments like this remind us how fragile life can be and how important it is to show love and support to the people around us while we still can.

Please keep his wife, children, and loved ones in your prayers during this difficult time. May God comfort the family, strengthen them, and grant him eternal rest. 🙏

A fundraising campaign has been created to support the family with funeral arrangements and basic living expenses. The link will be shared in the comment section for those who may wish to support. May his soul rest in peace

Canada has announced a temporary public policy that allows certain asylum claimants whose refugee claims were found ineligible under the new Bill C-12 rules to still apply for or maintain an open work permit while waiting for their Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA).

Under the new rules, some refugee claims may now be considered ineligible if:
• The claim was made more than one year after the person first entered Canada after June 24, 2020
• The person crossed irregularly from the U.S. into Canada and waited more than 14 days before making an asylum claim

Even if a claim is found ineligible, affected individuals may still qualify for a PRRA, which assesses whether they could face persecution, t0rture, or serious harm if removed from Canada.

The temporary policy was introduced to prevent people from losing their work authorization while waiting for PRRA eligibility decisions. It also allows some individuals who already have work permits to keep them active instead of having them automatically cancelled.

According to the federal government, the aim is to reduce pressure on provincial support systems while allowing eligible individuals to continue supporting themselves financially during processing.

The policy took effect after Bill C-12 received Royal Assent on March 26, 2026.
What are your thoughts on this new policy?

Future husband material spotted 😀. I know some people will disagree with some of his answers, but one thing is sure his parents are doing a great job. Which of these answers do you disagree with?
