📘 George F.G.

George F.G. Stanley — L’Invasion du Canada, 1775–1776
Once upon a time, the U.S. didn’t just talk about Canada becoming the 51st state — they tried to make it happen. In 1775, American troops invaded through Maine. Montreal was occupied. And decades later, under War Plan Red, the U.S. drafted real plans to capture Quebec and Halifax.

This rare title sold quickly from HareBooks, part of the personal exhibit archive of historian John Ellis Hare.

📩 During a time of rising tariffs, inflation, and uncertain economies, your support for Canadian independent booksellers matters more than ever. When you buy rare books locally, you’re helping preserve history — not just sell it.

The myth of the savage
AN examination of the early contacts between explorers and Amerindians, the variety of societies in the New World, the development of European beliefs and attitudes towards Amerindians, the origins of the concept of l’homme sauvage, relations between Amerindians and the early colonists and missionaries, and the outcome of colonization of the New World. Focuses on France’s particular experiences in exploration, trade, and colonization, especially in Brazil, Florida, and on the St. Lawrence. Sold to a reader in Quebec City!

Another signed edition sold of the prolific QuĂ©bĂ©cois author Felix Savard. FĂ©lix-Antoine Savard, OC MSRC (August 31, 1896 – August 24, 1982) was a Canadian priest, academic, poet, novelist and folklorist. The mountains of Charlevoix were the setting for his 1937 novel Menaud, maĂźtre draveur which made him famous and earned him a medal from the AcadĂ©mie française. It remains to this day one of the best-known works of Quebec literature.

Victor Barbeau, OC GOQ (18 August 1896 – 19 July 1994) was a Quebec writer and academic.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Barbeau was educated at CollÚge Sainte-Marie, Université Laval, and University of Paris. From 1925 to 1963, he was a Professor at HEC Montréal.

He was a founding member of the Académie canadienne française (today Académie des lettres du Québec) and was its President from 1944 to 1947.

In 1970, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 1987, he was made a Grand Officer of the National Order of Quebec. After his death in 1994, he was entombed at the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery in Montreal. The cadémie canadienne-française was founded in 1922 by Victor Barbeau and 15 other prominent Quebecois intellectuals and writers. This book sold to a collector in Montreal Victor Barbeau, Le Ramage de mon pays - le français tel qu'on le parle au Canada, Montréal : Editions Bernard Valiquette, 1939, 222-[3] p. ; 20 cm. Mirrors the work of the French Academy in preserving Quebecois Language and idoms. Very relevant sale given the new Bill 96 that just passed in Canada today that protects the French Language in Quebec. This book is a case in point for libraries not to deaccession double copies if they are signed by author!. This book went way to cheap today to a buyer. Quebecois writers and intellectuals don't seem to always be appreciated as they should be!
