Richmond Hill Heaven Project Scope:
These folks are long term customers. We started the project over ten years ago with a master plan. The initial phase in the back yard was the cedar deck, privacy screen plantings and rock gardens.
A year or so later came the negative edge gunite pool with waterfalls and the cabana, pergola and concrete decking.
The pool was separately fenced from the back yard due to younger kids wanting to play outside yet not in the pool area.
Several years later the kids were older and they wanted to have a more ‘grown up’ back yard so this was the final phase.
The pool enclosure fence was removed and relocated so there is no division in the ‘living’ area of the back yard.
We constructed the cedar pavilion with vaulted ceilings and a gas fireplace. The pavilion also has a state-of-the-art sound system with large tv screen as well as ceiling fan and dimmer pot lights.
The pavilion was built directly off the hot tub area for those cool evenings when you soak in the tub and then curl up by the fire afterwards.
The built-in BBQ server with granite counter tops and stainless steel doors and drawers add convenience for the outdoor chef.
The cedar decking was changed to IPE hardwood for a more durable finish.
Wood steps were changed to flagstone steps, planters & walls in matching stone to the BBQ server for durability and reduced maintenance.
The fireplace is done in a black granite veneer, floor to ceiling with a granite mantle.
Overall this back yard is now complete and suits the client’s lifestyle extremely well.
Truly a bit of heaven…!

Our Unionville Oasis project won the Landscape Ontario Award of Excellence Residential Landscape ($500,000 - $1,000,000) awarded January 2015.
Project Scope: This landscape design was inspired and designed to enhance this custom new home. The landscape design encompasses features such as the circular driveway and raised berms to the babbling brook in the rear yard of the Conservation area. It is truly stunning.
From the unique design of the fence and cedar tiered decks to the flagstone patio surrounding the custom infinity edge pool and cascading stone waterfall, this design incorporates both a warm and appealing visual design with one that is extremely functional for entertaining both large and small groups.
The tiered cedar decks create a wonderful space for relaxing, eating and cooking, with a more intimate space for the hot tub and outdoor fire table.
The views of the natural stone waterfall, the pool and the fire feature located in the stone wall of the screened lanai can be enjoyed from this deck as well as from the lounging area on the flagstone patio surrounding the pool.
This was a very challenging design due to the restrictions imposed by the Conservation Authority.
Overall, the end result is truly breath-taking and the owners are extremely delighted with their new turn key landscape!

Taste of Tuscany Project Scope:
The owners called us in to do a complete makeover of their back yard space. They hinted that they wanted it to feel like they were in Tuscany and have a private retreat where they could enjoy outdoor living for large Italian family gatherings, barbecues, lounging etc. We proceeded to do a complete concept plan which incorporated all of their wishes and more!
The view from their kitchen to the outside was also important so we designed the pergola and water feature to be aligned with their kitchen view centre site lines with the pavilion off to the right and the eating area to the left.
The BBQ pavilion is also at a convenient location just off the kitchen door and only one step down but not in the kitchen site line.
The use of space allows for freedom of movement for large gatherings as well as cozy spaces for smaller get togethers.
The vaulted ceilings of the pavilion add a sense of grand space and allow the ceiling fan to be functional yet elevated.
The gas fireplace keeps the chill away in the cooler evenings/days, while with the outdoor TV with built-in ceiling speakers allows for golf, tennis, ball game or movie viewing with friends and family.
The architecture of the pavilion, pergola and trellis work with its distinctive arches adds to that ‘Tuscany feel’ and use of stone pillars with elegant columns intensifies the effect.
It was our pleasure to design and build this wonderful back yard oasis and we look forward to future challenges for new customers.
I think you will agree that this back yard entices one to go out and use these wonderful spaces and enjoy outdoor living at its finest.

Markham Ontario Townhouse Courtyard - transformation by Markville Landscaping

This Markham, Ontario Townhouse narrow rectangular yard was transformed to meet the needs of a retired couple who wanted to enjoy their backyard with minimal maintenance. The yard is divided into 'rooms': BBQ area, eating area and lounge area that enjoy the sight and soothing sounds of a water feature (rock bubbler). The pathway from the house to the garage meanders through these 'rooms'. These areas of enjoyment are defined by different pavers and aggregate. The only turf this couple needs to manage is that on the golf course! Great job team!

Toronto Backyard Oasis with Natural Cascading Waterfall by Markville Landscaping.

AFTER PICS of Toronto Backyard Oasis with Natural Cascading Waterfall created by Markville Landscpaing team! Project Scope: This home had a large sloped backyard. The entire yard was transformed into tiers, with a stone pathway meandering throughout. The multiple levels each hold an enjoyable purpose - eating area, hot tub, lounge area. The seating area surrounds a gas fire table and overlooks the lower cascading pond. The water flows from a bubbling upper pond (at eating area) down levels of a naturalized ravine before it falls into the lower pond. The plantings offer great texture in form and colour, while providing some privacy for this naturalized oasis in the city. Great job team! Contact us to help you create your own oasis in the city.
