Knot Your Nanny's Knitting

I was going to share this little story the other day, but it felt too sappy. Then I snapped this photo of my little angel coming back from the park, all tucked away in my Sackville Farmers' Market NS sweater, and it was just too cute not to share. 🥹💕

The other day I was driving with Andon and two of his friends in the back seat. I could hear their little chatter, but really locked in when I realized Andon was telling them what he was going to do when he grew up.

He told them he was going to do lots of work.

His friends immediately started talking about all the money they were going to make, but Andon was trying SO hard to explain that sometimes the kind of work he was talking about, you don’t get paid for.

Eventually I chimed in, slightly embarrassed they now knew I was eavesdropping on their very important grown-up plans. 😂

Andon said, “You know, I’m going to work like you, but sometimes you don’t get paid, right?”

Before I could answer, one of his friends, completely confused, asked:

“Why would you do that?!”

And before I could say a word, Andon answered:

“Because it makes you feel good.”

😭😭😭

I told him what he was describing was volunteering… then held back tears for the next five minutes while they continued their “when I grow up” chatter.

What a tiny, beautiful glimpse into his world. 🥹

I haven’t always felt like I was being the greatest role model for my kids, but in that moment, I was so incredibly proud to be someone he was looking up to.

Both of Andon’s parents love to volunteer. We love being part of our community here in Sackville—showing up, lending a hand, meeting our neighbours and helping make things happen.

And most of all, teaching our kids that there are things in this life worth giving your time and effort to that have absolutely nothing to do with making money. 🩷

Love you, little buddy. I can’t wait to see all the amazing things you get up to as you grow up and grow into that SFM sweater. 😂😂😂🩷

Hey guys! 💕 As most of you know, I’m a mama to three beautiful kiddos , and during the summer, when everyone is home from school, I also open my home to provide summer care during the week. ☀️🫶

Needless to say… summer around here is BUSY having said that- my social media pages have been a little quieter than usual.

But recently I attended FREE a social media information session with madelineondigital, and I left feeling SO inspired. One of my biggest takeaways was honestly something I needed to hear:

✨ JUST POST THE DANG VIDEO. ✨

Stop overthinking it. Stop waiting until everything is perfect. Stop convincing yourself that every post has to fit perfectly into a little box.

So here is my official pledge to myself: I’m going to show up. I’m going to be consistent. And I’m going to post the dang videos. 😂🙌

I’ve been working on this hexi cardigan for some time now (starting the second half in this video) 🧶 and while I thought I was going to get a little time to sit, relax and crochet while the kiddos played… that was short-lived because, well… feral mom stuff. 😂☀️

And honestly, these summer adventures are made even better because I’m lucky enough to have some of my favourite people along for the ride. 💕 Today my bestie for the restie, Autumn from Autumn Lane Journals and her kiddos joined in on the chaos. everything is just more fun when you get to do it with your friends and watch your kiddos make these memories together. 🥹

So I put the hook down and we PLAYED! 💕 The cardigan will still be there when I get home, but these wild summer days with the kiddos won’t last forever.

Then suddenly it’s no longer inventory… it’s part of my summer wardrobe. 😂☀️

complete.
What started as a pile of yarn became the recreation of one of the most treasured items someone has ever owned. It has been an absolute honour to bring this blanket back to life and preserve the memories wrapped up inside every stitch.
Thank you to everyone who followed along, cheered me on, shared your own blanket stories, and reminded me why handmade things are so special.
This project has been a beautiful reminder that crochet isn't just about making blankets-it's about creating comfort, preserving memories, and carrying traditions from one generation to the next.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Now... onto the next adventure!
