It’s a family affair at Honeybee Sisters Apiary! Harvesting honey was so much fun and a lot of work tonight. We learn something new about the process every year! Thank you everyone for helping! 🐝 A very special thank you to Aurelian Maxim for all your knowledge and teaching. We are so grateful to you.

This weekend was all about building and painting more boxes and assembling frames / foundations. Our colonies seem to be thriving and we need to provide more space for them to build and work.

Began the process of winterizing today! We have late season brood so we insulated from the inside for now to help keep the brood cozy and warm. Not enough honey to harvest but made sure the bees have enough to feed from. We’ll check back in a few weeks!

Had a heck of a time trying to locate her Majesty today. We never did find her. We think she young and small in size and perhaps not mated yet. We’ll check again next week! The bees were super calm today and loved the sunshine!

Taking a quick glimpse inside our thriving hive. Had to remove the empty bag that we gave them in January as a winter boost of sugar paste. They completely cleaned it out. 🐝🐝🐝

Prepping for Spring! 🐝Unfortunately we lost one hive ☹️but our second hive appears to be thriving. Bees are very busy bringing in pollen which is a good indicator of fresh eggs! We’ll make a plan soon for that first hive and how to get it going again.
